The 142 Most Absurdly Locked-Down Counties in America
National Review ^ | APril 27,2020 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 04/27/2020 4:13:14 PM PDT by Hojczyk

On Meet the Press yesterday, Dr. Deborah Birx sensibly stood up for an approach that takes account of differences from state to state and county to county, “Each state is different.

And the reason we made the guidelines [for re-opening] and gating criteria very specific was also — and I’m sure a lot of people have missed the asterisk that said to look not only statewide, but also county by county.” She added that she’s been struck by “how different the outbreaks are from the metro regions, to the rural regions, to the county regions.”

but not all of New York equally. These 12 counties haven’t been hit so hard:

Hamilton, with 3 cases; Schuyler, 7; Lewis, 9; Yates, 17; Franklin, 14; Seneca, 38; Schoharie, 35; Essex, 30; Chautauqua, 29; Cortland, 28; Cattaraugus, 45; and Allegany, 35.

In Michigan, where sweeping, arbitrary rules fueled a protest that got national attention, there are 23 counties with no deaths:

Alcona, with 4 cases; Antrim, 9; Baraga, 1; Benzie, 4; Chippewa, 2; Houghton, 2; Huron, 13; Lake, 2; Leelanau, 9; Lenawee, 82; Luce, 1; Mackinac, 5; Manistee, 11; Mason, 5; Menominee, 3; Montmorency, 5; Newaygo, 15; Ogemaw, 9; Osceola, 8; Oscoda, 4; Presque Isle, 10; Roscommon, 13; and Schoolcraft, 3

Mine has less than 15. I don’t think people are paying much attention to the lockdown here.

Santa Clara
Alameda
Contra Costa
Marin
San Mateo

Stupid

We have 1.2 million people in Santa Clara County, 100 CCP-19 deaths and 2,100 confirmed infections.

If there are some 50-80 times the confirmed infections the 105,000 at large are infected(that number is way to low but, I chose the lowest estimate of 50x)

Then 100 CCP-19 deaths ÷ 105 000 suspected infections = 0.095%

If I use their top number of 80x it really isn’t important except to illustrate my high school dropout math is better whoever the 3rd grader with a coloring book was paid for all the other projections

It’s even stupider than that. The population of Santa Clara County is 2 million, not 1.2 million.

Well, I was using the same calculator they use for counting illegal immigrants.

Pretty sure at one time there were 1.2 million.

Sohhhh, double the suspected infections and we come up with 0.047% death rate and (100 / 210,000=0.047%) and that number is too low. At a minimum it should be over 300K

Government is force, not logic. They don’t care. They have us all under house arrest, because they can. They don’t care if you live by yourself on 200 acres of land. They don’t care.

Absolute power corrupts.

The county where we live in Florida has recorded a couple hundred cases of Covid-19 and only one death.

But as a result thousands of people have lost their jobs and livelihoods and many of their former employers have closed their doors for good. Jobs here in this rural area were few and far between to begin with. Now the politicians have sent the death knell to people's ability to make a living and many will not work again for years.

That's the tragedy. The Left cries that people could die so we have to do our part. I just read the total deaths from the virus is about 56,000 in the whole country and almost 18,000 of them are in New York. That's a third of all deaths are in New York. So why is everywhere being treated the same?

We have shotgunned our response instead of zeroing in on the biggest problem areas. The "cure" is already going to be worse than the virus itself. We have spent a dollar to save a nickel and lost 95 cents in the process.

Precisely. The government response is insane.
