New York's second round of antibody testing found 14.9 percent of samples to be positive, a full percentage point higher than the first round, Cuomo said Monday.
That indicates even more than the 2.7 million New Yorkers identified in the first testing round may have been infected at some point. Many likely never even knew they had the virus -- and were spreading it.
New York state has reported nearly 300,000 confirmed cases to date. That number seems staggering -- until you realize the actual total could be 10 times higher at minimum.
Again, there were glaring variations by region, with samples in New York City, the nation's epicenter, showing much higher positivity rates (24.7 percent) than anywhere else in the state. The city's positive rate jumped up by about three percentage points since last week's study. Westchester/Rockland counties had a higher percentage of positives (15.1 percent) than Long Island (14.4 percent) in this round of testing, while the rest of the state averaged 3.2 percent.
Given the limitations of diagnostic testing, antibody testing paints a fuller picture of the scope of the pandemic in a given place. Cuomo has said it helps inform his opening strategy for New York: "Know what you are doing before you do it."
Antibodies don't guarantee immunity from reinfection, but the nation's top experts, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, say it's reasonable to assume someone who has had the virus won't get it again. At least not in the immediate future.
To date, New York City has seen more than 160,000 COVID-19 cases of the state's 291,000-plus total. It has also seen the most death -- 12,287 of the state's toll, which eclipsed 17,000 Monday as Cuomo added another 337 names (the lowest single-day toll in a month).

Well, I’m pretty sure that I would be considered to be among the FeaRpers by the more rabid Flubros, but I don’t think that the information coming in from the serology studies is a surprise to anyone, FeaRpers included.
One thing we should expect going forward is that the serology will show the rate at which this virus is spread to the rest of the population, which is inevitable.
The more reasonable FeaRpers have been pointing out for a long time that the only number that matters is the total number of “excess” deaths being seen. You don’t need to worry that some CCP Virus cases are being over-reported, or misattributed just look at the total number of deaths, and see if it’s higher or lower than previous years.
Right now, in the US, the number is lower, which is great. But in NYC it’s currently double the past average. In New Jersey, it’s 20% greater, and the same can be seen all over the world. It’s not a hoax, it’s not the flu, and it absolutely is deadly.
That is not an argument for any particular policy formulation, it’s just data, which should be taken into account when discussing the policies we are allowing our politicians to inflict on us.

You can't compare confirmed COVID-19 cases with estimated flu cases and expect to prove anything meaningful.

The problem that caused this is, it appears a large majority of people who catch this thing have almost NO symptoms at all. Many don’t know they are sick, and so they don’t get tested. We were basing everything off of what we thought was a good picture of the number of infections, based on people with real symptoms that needed attention.
So while this thing was killing off a high number of old people and people who were already severely ill or had chronic conditions, we thought it wasn’t infecting young people as much.
Now we know that it was infecting young people a LOT, they simply had no symptoms and never got tested.
Some state tested all their inmates, and 96% of the ones testing positive had NO SYMPTOMS. If that translated to the rest of the world, it means that our positive counts might be catching only 4% of the total, meaning the number who had it could be 25 times what we think.

They think it is absorbed by skin; don’t realize the only purpose of gloves is to throw them away after you touch something, so you don’t have to keep washing your hands.
I won’t go near a glove — it’s easier to just not touch my face or body, and then wash my hands whenever I touch something I don’t know is clean.
