Some US governors move to reopen their states, though some local leaders are pushing back (works both ways?)

A few states are moving toward reopening their economies amid the coronavirus pandemic, but some local leaders don't want their residents to go along -- even as idled workers weigh the benefits of getting paychecks again.

In Georgia and South Carolina, Republican governors announced they'll ease restrictions this week despite neither meeting White House recommendations of a two-week downward trend in cases before lifting measures in phases.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, saying workers and business owners need relief, said businesses including bowling alleys, body art studios and hair and nail salons can reopen this week. Theaters and restaurants can open their doors next week with social distancing restrictions.

Local governments can't countermand the decision -- but some mayors are asking their residents to stay home.

"I'm exhorting everybody in this community to continue to shelter in place," Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz told CNN on Tuesday, pointing toward the federal guidelines. "Do not reopen at this point. It's not the time to do it."

Opening up states with everyone required to wear a mask is the GOP line right now along with other restrictions depending on specific situations.

More afraid of Covid-19 than the liberty-loving voters who put Republicans into office.

Most Republican voters fear COVID-19 more than they love liberty. That’s pathetic, but you’ll find plenty of examples of this right here on FR.

didn’t Pres. Trump say that some areas already meet this recommendation?

Democrats and their toadies in the media want this drawn out until November. That’s why the #1 story coming out this morning is the CDC saying a second wave, worse that the first, is coming this fall.

If we wait for the proposed “2nd wave in the fall” we will be locked up until Jun 2021.

and what about the threats from the undiscovered hoodooguru flu or mexirat virus...

This is just what the Dem governors are doing to Trump. President Trump brings out a plan, Dem governors do everything they can to make it fail or prolong the shutdown. Republican governors bring out a plan, and Dem mayors do everything they can to make it fail or prolong the shutdown. What the state Dems are doing the local Dems are doing the same.

In talking about this at home I told my wife that this could play like the Civil War:
Two people in the same house -
one says I am going to go out and get back to normalcy.
The other says, If you go out don’t come back. You will be infected, and I don’t want you infecting ME.
What kind of life will it be?
I guess we can build 21st century leper colonies.
