When reports of a new virus circulating in China’s Hubei province first began to emerge, I was cautious about overreacting. I’ve reported on health long enough to know that just because a pathogen is new doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a crisis.
Of course, I quickly realized this isn’t just any virus. We’re currently battling a global pandemic unlike any we’ve seen in over a century.
But it’s also not the first modern virus we’ve faced. In the past two decades, the world battled Ebola, SARS and more than one major flu outbreak. Those left tragedies in their wake but didn’t cause the same level of societal and economic disruption that COVID-19 has. As a result, they can help us understand this new coronavirus — to capture how unique our new reality is, it helps to look back at similar outbreaks that threatened to upend society, but ultimately stopped short.
1. SARS and MERS: Deadly, but not easily spread
In late 2002, an emerging pathogen that likely spilled over from the animal world started to cause severe respiratory illness in China. Sound familiar? Through the first half of 2003, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) spread through 26 countries, infecting at least 8,098 people and killing at least 774.
If the name didn’t give it away, SARS was caused by a virus similar to the one that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, but it didn’t have nearly the same impact. This is in spite of having a relatively high case fatality rate of 9.6 percent, compared to the current estimate for COVID-19: 1.4 percent.
Another respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, has an even higher case fatality rate of 34 percent. But it’s also led to fewer deaths than what we’ve already seen from COVID-19:

Pay attention to the verbiage used when hearing the usual suspects issue denials and “debunked”.
We know they work with these coronaviruses from Bats, at Wuhan and around the world. One of the techniques is called “Gain of Function.” It doesn’t mean they a slicing and dicing and adding this and that. What it means is infecting hundreds of animals (or humans) and allowing or causing them to be passed back and forth and looking for interesting mutations.
Then those mutations are culled and the process started anew and select for new mutations. Sort of like animal husbandry or virus breeding or speeding up Darwin. I don’t claim to understand it either, but that’s one way they can mess around with this stuff without “gene splicing”.
Your tax dollars at work? Keep in mind Chinese “students” in the US have been taking their homework back with them for a long time, including lots of viruses, and the NIH has provided funding to the lab in Wuhan, apparently.
Commicrats cannot lose. They IMO already locked down the house and senate, but Potus should win. They then can impeach the H out of him.

Jim I know exactly what I’m talking about and you are really pushing the issue. I’m very well connected and am reporting you to the authorities as I have reported others on other forums who have tried tactics as you have. BTW they were identified, arrested, prosecuted and fined or imprisoned.
This documentary explains the origins in laymen terms. It seems like it was an engineered virus, specifically created in a lab. Don’t know if it was accidentally released or not. It definitely is not naturally occurring.

The highest officials in the CDC come to you and tell you there is a Virus coming from China that is a new, unknown virus. It is extremely virulent with no known cause or cure. They tell you it could KILL 2,200,000 Americans within weeks or months at most. Everyone in Gov’t agrees.
What would you do if it were you in President Trump’s position at that time?
That said, President Trump quickly realized several weeks in that shutting down the country could be a cure worse than the disease. He said so publicly. Took unbelievable heat for saying so, yet, he stuck by it.
In fact, he heavily promoted OPENING our country back for business in spite of the Medical Community resistance. Why? Because he was correct. This cure is worse than the disease. The Shutsown of our Economy is unsustainable.
