The Navy is looking into whether it can reinstate Capt. Brett E. Crozier, who was removed from command of the carrier Theodore Roosevelt after he pleaded for more help fighting a novel coronavirus outbreak aboard his ship, Defense Department officials said on Wednesday.

NY Times?
In general, remove and then return a bad idea. Better to let him have either a different ship or other leadership assignment.
consider the source.
Not a vet. Dealt with a lot sending care packages. Have heard all kinds of wild unbelievable stories about supplies ..chain of command issues.. etc..
From a humane standpoint..he tried to save his people
You cannot un-ring a bell....
If you bring the guy back....someone up the channel has to admit they screwed up badly, and they themselves need to be removed. I can’t think of too many situations where this has occurred in either the Army or Air Force.
I think everyone who thought it was a good idea to make a port call there during a pandemic needs to be keelhauled.

If he violated the chain of command he is gone and for good reason. The port call in Vietnam was the start of this mess. Once a relief is done, it is done. The Navy is rather hide bound and extremely unlikely to reverse the relief.
IMHO, any Captain who had a port of call in Vietnam in the middle of a coronavirus out-break likely should not be re-instated.
He was the author of the infection of his crew by not keeping them at sea. And the strategic information the Captain had on Chia intel shoould have been enough for him to exercise far better judgement than he did.
Themn once the epidemic broke out on his ship, he paniced and violated the chain of command, making the USN appear weakened, and managed to manipulate events so that now the only aircraft carrier in the South China Sea happens to be Red Chinese.
If reinstated, he should not appointed Captain of a ship of the line..A USN scow on the Hudson should be tops.
SecNav already resigned.
The Captain released classified force status information to the San Fran Chronicle!!! He is ALWAYS in a war zone 24/7 with that nuclear powered aircraft carrier. He thought he was on a cruise ship. A submarine sailor was imprisoned for a photograph of a control panel in a submarine. ... this commanding officer let the world know that his carrier task force was vulnerable...
No, sorry.
No captain should ever give a public impression that his strategically important aircraft carrier is unfit for combat operations.
Loose lips sink ships.
Look out for your men, but publicly making your vessel appear compromised? Unforgivable.
Some freezers with naval experience have pointed out that the Captain would not have been the one to make that decision. Someone higher up did. Apparently, decisions like this can be highly politicized.
I hate autocorrect. Meant freepers.
The acting SECNAV resigned over his handling of the situation,
But, did Capt Crozier leak to the press about the situation?
I think that if there were extenuating circumstances that indicated the need for Emergency assistance that should be taken into consideration regarding his being returned to command of the Nimitz.
Though he was negligent in sending communications regarding the crews heath care situation over the unsecured internet. When he had all of the secure communications systems any other persons would love to have.
If he actually did what was reported he should be reduced one grade in rank after a Non-Judicial punishment.
Nope...the Navy was right to relieve him of command for his VIRTUE SIGNALING (yes, IMHO I believe that was his motive) leak to the media. Giving him the extreme maximum of benefit of the doubt, HE PANICKED, at least in his fear.
The decision was made to remove him. Stick with the decision.
Our military should not be run on the whims of how the general public (revved up by the media) feels about a situation. This is not a popularity contest. Tis a sad day when the powers in charge of our fine Navy crumble and acquiesce to snowflakes, Karens, and liberals who think feelings should trump everything.
