If so, do you know if they had the flu earlier?

I was wondering if the effected ones had any antibodies from a previous bout with the flu.
I think I had it. Worst upper respiratory flu/cold I ever had in November. This thing was here earlier than they say it was.
The wuhan virus is a different type of virus than influenza virus. So antibodies from the flu wouldn’t help with COVID-19. There were some people who tested positive for both COVID-19 and the Flu, indicating they had both viruses at the same time.

Which flu are you talking about? Victoria flu hit the US pretty hard in Dec and January, and wasn’t included in the annual vaccine strains. That’s probably why it hit harder than usual, and some schools were closed because of it.

Nope, and I live and work in Downtown LA. I have been asking everybody I know or work with if they or anybody they know has contracted it, and the answer has been a resounding “NO”!
Yes a friends father died of it. 7 people in the family, of various ages got it and were very sick. One in ICU now for weeks.
It’s not the”flu from China”.
It’s a completely different novel virus not related to the flu at all so having had the flu DOESNT GIVE ANY IMMUNITY.

I think I had a mild case in February. Had all the major symptoms. The breathing part scared me so I was taking precautions to avoid pneumonia (which I’ve had twice. Don’t want it again!) using a breathing machine to make sure my lungs were being fully inflated. finally started coughing up crap. The whole thing lasted about 3 to 4 weeks.
There’s been a nasty virus floating around here back in December/January. There was a big wedding and the bride’s family was from NYC. Lots of illness but no hospitalizations or deaths. Thank God. Makes me think this has been going on for a while.

I know one person, but have only heard about it through her parents—she has been working at a homeless shelter in London England. The uncle of the wife of my boss died of it. There are other people that I’ve heard about that are second or third hand. All of them (other than the first) are located in the NYC area, which seems to have close to half of the U.S. cases.

Early Jan. of this year I had a 24 hour feel like crap episode that turned into a deep seated cough, the worst I’ve ever had. The cough was so deep I had to press on my chest when I did to ease the pain. Took a month and half for the residual chest issue to go away.
