Court throws out Trump rollback of school nutrition rules
Associated Press ^ | April 14, 2020 | Candice Choi

After making a brief comeback on school lunch menus, white bread and other refined grains may be vanishing again when schools reopen after a federal court threw out the Trump administration’s rollback of school nutrition standards.

The U.S. district court in Maryland this week said the administration did not give adequate public notice of the change, which had gone into effect for this past school year. The ruling was in response to a lawsuit brought by the Center for Science in the Public Interest and Healthy School Food Maryland.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said it does not comment on ongoing litigation and it’s unknown how the agency will proceed. The agency oversees the national school lunch and breakfast programs, which serve millions of free and reduced-price meals daily. […]

It’s the latest twist in the years-long clash over nutrition standards championed by former first lady Michelle Obama. The 2012 rules required schools to transition over time entirely to whole grain-rich options and gradually reduce sodium levels. But school lunch operators opposed the standards, saying new recipes were resulting in mushy pastas and cardboard-like pizzas, and that students were throwing away more food. …

Perhaps, but the common reason for such lapses is more dispiriting than infuriating. In my experience, government lawyers usually have no more imagination and breadth of knowledge than the average flea.

“What school remains open to feed this crap?”

Breakfast AND Lunches were never stopped in Schools in at least Los Angeles county maybe the entire State of California. So sad that ALL tax payers are on the hook for so many irresponsible Parents whom claim they can’t afford a bowl of cereal and a glass of OJ in the morning for their kids. Ditto to brown bagging a sandwich and a piece of fruit for lunch.

I am glad there are other people like you who see this charade for what it is.

I saw some news reports when CORONA first was shutting down the entire nation, and many local outlets led the night's stories with how these "families who depend on free school meals are going to have to cope."

My take is: since the hair and nail salons have also closed, these "parents" (in quotes) should have a few extra bucks to purchase their kids a Bologna sandwich and a glass of milk.

Hair Extensions Prices By Type.

Type...…. Average Cost
Clip-in …..$100 to $500
Tape-in …..$200+
Sew-in …..$275+
Weave …..$100 to $600

A startup that's capitalizing on the untapped hair extensions ...

"Someone please point out to me where Mike Obama got his/her power and authority..."

You're racist for even asking that question.

Fine. Give public notice as of today and have the change put into effect next upcoming semester.

I’ve tried cauliflower mashed potatoes. It’s a mixture of whipped potatoes and cauliflower. It’s edible with enough gravy. But my feeling is...mashed potatoes aren’t broken...why try to fix them.

I don’t mind raw cauliflower with some ranch dressing as a snack, along with carrots, celery and some other fresh veggies.

One of my absolute favorite meals. If I’m working outside and get weary...a PBJ is a sure-fired pick-me-up.

I think all the schools despite being closed are still supplying meals for children in need. I don't know what's been going on elsewhere but my grandson was never served any of that crap in school during or after the lowland land gorilla stuck her pudgy fingers into school lunches. Kongette following Hitlery's example of power sharing latched onto the it takes a village idiot theme and made herself the biggest village idiot, in more ways than one, and refuses to just ow away and suck on a plantain.

Now I hear they are pushing it to be Slow Bros' V.P. when everyone knows no one will be voting for Slow Bro for president the dems will be voting for his VP because Slow Bro won't last a year before resigning due to 'health issues'. The dem socialist party is wetting itself with the prospect of Kongette as president and Peloonie moving into VP. For the dems wet dreams are made of this!

Get the federal governmen out of setting any such standards.

This is a matter for localities and states, and if their voters do not demand it of their elected officials, that’s the end of it.

How did it become a “federal” issue? They used the federal aid to K-12 education as contingent on following federal rules, even rules from agencies like the agriculture department, through which the federal K-12 education money for school lunches is funneled.

“For crying out loud take a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to school.”

Peanut butter? Isn’t that a micro-aggression to people with nut allergies?

School is for learning not eating. Personally I don’t think we should have cafeterias in schools at all. Its a giant waste of taxpayer money. Kids should bring their own lunch or if they don’t have a few sandwich and drink machines at reduced prices. Provide tables and chairs. All these poor quality lunch cafeterias are costly and half the kids won’t eat it anyway. Its lunch for God’s sake!

I hear you. I went to Catholic schools of the early and mid 1960’s. Yup, Nuns in penguin suits. Sister Mary Immaculate of the Right Cross(and a wicked left hook). My late mother had seven us. It was PB&J in a brown lunch bag, everyday. Kids today are fat, spoiled blobs who throw lunch away. Though I can hardly blame them with some of the garbage they’re served.

It's a ClownBammy "judge" - George J. Hazel.

Apparently, Federal judge-president George is running the nation's nutrition programs...

This little 0bama puke will be torturing us for another 25-35 years.

He's young.
