No offense, but I think the question is encouraging a huge misunderstanding about who is in charge.

It is not President Trump who has:

• closed schools
• closed nursing homes to visitors
• banned meetings of groups larger than x people
• ordered bars, restaurants, bowling allies, hair-dressers and all other "non essential" businesses closed
• either via the previous order or explicitly banned church services
• closed most parks
• in some cases limited peoples ability to travel, even between their own properties
• declared a moratorium on evictions
• activated the national guard

All those acts have been taken by Governors, under State Laws that give them extraordinary powers in case of a State of Emergency, which again in most cases they alone have the power to declare.

For me that means the shutdown will last at least until May 5, but possibly longer. It will last until Gov. Inslee of Washington decides to end the many restrictions and closures he began with his proclamation of a State of Emergency on Feb. 29.

President Trump has no power to force Gov. Inslee to do or undo any of his orders. If Trump tried Inslee would over-rule him, and enjoy doing it.

President Trump can reopen the national parks and forest service land, and i hope he does. He can't do anything to get Joe's Bar and Grill in Anytown, USA opened. The Governor of the State has to do that.

we do tend to joke in order to relieve the worry, but you are right. the results of this will be jobs that don't return, industries that will have to scale down (movie theaters, sporting events, cruises - anywhere people gather in mass numbers), restaurants will be changed

Companies that have laid off people, will re-assess whether ALL need to be hired back.

This whole thing, IMO, was a planned event since all other coup attempts haven't worked.
IT would be over tomorrow if Trump and Pence would announce that they are stepping down, and turning control over to Pelosi.
All of a sudden, the media would forget corona virus and the country would "miraculously" open up

On some level, most Americans are wondering the same thing you are. It’s too bad some feel the need to dilute your thread with unthinking comments.

The answer is that most of us don’t know. My gut tells me this bizarre, weird thing we are all going through will bring out the best in our country: finding a need and filling it, acquiring or re-learning skills, realizing we cannot and should not depend on other countries, realizing we can be totally self-sufficient as the greatest country on earth.

Your gut would be right if we were a moral and just people. But alas ... our citizens are anything but nowadays. And our politicians are even worse. Current President being the exception.
