So by May 20 you’re looking at 125,000 people a day dying from this?
Or is that the total deaths from the virus since it started?
Love this guy...
“Me: Guys in these uncertain times, it is important we take extra precautions. I love you guys too much to let anything happen to you. Corona is sweeping the globe. People are dying. I’m going to need to sample your Easter Candy to ensure it’s safety”

“Going off this idea CA needs to reopen today so the virus can flare up so the herd immunity can start to take. Leave it open until you get a good documented 500,000 people infected. This will help insure the herd immunity.”
woah, how can that be logical? 500K in a pop of 40M? HIV - 30M cases worldwide - where’s the herd immunity on that? Or Smallpox? Singapore, SK, HK, are all credited with limiting infection - but they sure didn’t do herd immunity strategy.
Shutting down, is laying siege to the virus - depriving it of new victims. And, most importantly, preventing potential spread/mutation to livestock/pets. Just like mankind did for The Black Plague. (just like the chi-coms did to Wuhan). Depending on who, non-essential Californians have been shuttered from late Feb to March 19ish, now being April 11. Some have long-exceeded the 37 days it took one of the DP fellas to finally test negative. Europe has also been in quarantine since mid-March. What we’re doing, is working a whole lot better than ‘let it burn.’ Not to mention, let it burn means thousands of cases flooding ERs on the same day, every day - impossible to provide care - we sorta don’t want to do that.

Early on, it was stated that smoking likely increased susceptibility to Corona Chan. When my Dad was training to become a paramedic, one of his instructors stated that if they were fire fighters, they likely had reduced their life span by 10 years.
This is very sad—praying for all our first responders to be granted mercy from God and come through it all OK.
“Social distancing” isn’t the only game in town.
For a clear example, widespread use of personal masks could be expected to do a better job of lowering the R0.
And let the economy go on- without any medical advances.
Though medical advances are what I expect.
“To a hammer everything looks like a nail.”... That’s how many are looking at “social distancing” and what we should do. It’s not right.
But I think there must be practical reasons that letting the “not at risk” get infected while protecting the “at risk”. won’t work or we’d have tried it.
SHANGHAI, April 12 (Reuters) - Mainland China reported 99 new confirmed coronavirus cases on April 11, including 97 involving travelers from overseas, up from a total of 46 new cases a day earlier, China's National Health Commission said on Sunday.— Vincent Lee (@Rover829) April 12, 2020
I don't buy China's numbers, but my guess is the official number of cases going up means the real number of cases is going up https://t.co/tXqEifae8H— Steve Lookner (@lookner) April 12, 2020
And to you :) I’ll trade you a 10lb male pom puppy who is now doing handstands to pee on walls, for your 75lb neutered...
re: russia
northern china, Heilongjiang province shares a border with Russia. Big outbreak there, lockdown applied. Of course the CCP says their cases are from Russia and there are only a few. But they’re still building a popup hospital outside of Suifenhe. That should shed some light on how bad Russia is.
Amen.
What a sad likely statistic.

“ Defence Force vessels have established a blockade off the northern Bahamas to ensure the closure of harbours as it relates to vessels entering or departing those inlets. Sections 10 and 11 of the COVID-19 Orders calls for the Restriction are better equipped to deal with the probability of a local COVID-19 outbreak, after a series of preparatory and training seminars were hosted at the Coral Harbour Base this past week...”
darn. I use vinegar too. Well, I’m still going to use it, and then I guess I’ll hit it with Lysol spray?
There was talk weeks ago, I think on this thread, of a tingling
yup. I remember that. The first talk of the CNS or brainstem being involved...
I haven't done any of that, but do take the antivirals. In and out all day, visit lots of stores, generally eat restaurant take-out twice a day, four grandkids coming and going, haven't even tried on a mask or pair of gloves, although I have them. Haven't applied disinfectant to a single surface except my hands. All this in WA State, yet, but still we're healthy. Am I tempting fate, just lucky? (Or possibly already have resistance from a mild case?).
My question about the extreme isolationist strategies is 'When do you end them?'. When there are no more known cases in your city...state..country...world? What about other diseases?
Do not take this virus as a joke: 25-year-old L.A. COVID-19 survivor shares warning after brush with death
https://ktla.com/news/young-covid-19-survivor-shares-warning/
500,000 confirmed cases would be way too low to be approaching herd immunity for a population of 40 million. It would probably be closer to 4 million confirmed cases to have enough unconfirmed cases to be getting to herd immunity.

Those are the $64M questions that the Task Force won’t answer.
I heard one epidemiologist say to go ahead and let ‘er rip..protect the elderly/most vulnerable and give everyone else herd immunity...then, when the country is down to 60 CV deaths/day, you can call it over and done with. Some studies are saying that the overall fatality rate would be about the same as with taking mitigation measures..
I have no idea. The goal posts keep changing for Dr Scarf.
I wonder what happens if this stuff possibly resurfaces, in fall. Same thing, again?
Good for you that you’re not having to take any extra protection (wiping the groceries/mail, etc.) measures.
Which antivirals are you taking?
Did we ever come upon a good way to clean storebought produce?
Tentatively contemplating a pickup order maybe this week or next. But it would require some thought beforehand and some procedures we haven’t used.
Yeah...that’s where the herd immunity peeps (that I just posted about) get it wrong...they don’t take into account the HC system being hit all at once/overwhelmed.
