REVEALED: There are TWO strains of coronavirus spreading in Australia - as the virus mutates to beat people’s immune systems

This is hyperbole by the Daily Mail. All viruses mutate, but corona viruses are famously stable. There are not 2, but at least EIGHT strains now. The mutations are TINY, and not epidemiologicaly significant beyond helping in the tracking of the virus. It is not mutating into something more contagious, more lethal, or harder to treat.

Coronavirus Pandemic Update 53: Anticoagulation; Can Mechanical Ventilation Make COVID 19 Worse?

A recent paper from Dr. Gattinoni, a physician on the frontlines in Italy, describes who there may be two different “phenotypes” of COVID-19… and one of them is not amenable to mechanical ventilation. Dr. Seheult discusses the details of how some have compared COVID-19 to high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). Embolism risk and anticoagulation with COVID-19 are also discussed.

Dr. Gattioni:
Type L - unusual type - not a lot of infiltrates/fluid - lung compliance near normal
Type H - normally encountered type -severe ARD - 20% - low lung compliance plenty of water/infiltrates so lungs will be very stiff

Autopsies show blood clots in the lungs, but also in the heart, liver and kidney.

unfractionated heparin

Has anyone figured out how to deal with monolaurin..Which may help against wuhan flu..but can also give you that herxheimer reaction that is like wuhan flu due to increase in cytokines.

Do you go through herxheimer while in Quarantine strategy?

“Frankly I rally[sic] don’t give damn what you think about me, you have been a doom and gloom pusher from the beginning and you have been DEAD WRONG!!”

LOL. I have been a Be Prepared “pusher” from the beginning.

And, sadly, I have yet to be wrong about anything significant. Find something. Go ahead and try.

But you’ve been the real Doom and Gloom pusher with your hysteria about the economy and the election.

I suppose it was too much to expect you to ever see reason or even consider accepting the olive branch.

Eight dogs and a Maine Coon Cat. Now there is a home with a lot of love in it. This I know. What’s been keeping me sane in all of this madness is being able to play with my dogs everyday. I know that they’ve wondered why I stopped walking them though.

Yesterday was an absolute perfect day for a motorcycle ride! I can only imagine how that must have felt, spirit flying down the highway, bathing in the sun.

What finally made me go on my hike was yesterday’s crisp, blue sky and magnificent sunshine. Not to mention, another poster said I should go, and by god, I agreed with him!

In NW Florida yesterday, it was so beautiful. Yesterday day was a good day. Thank you, Lord.

Wonder if Ca had the Strain S of Coronavirus and New York had Strain L the deadlier one. Strain L is what went through Wuhan and Europe.

If you are infected with S does that make you immune to L?

I think Ca might have shut down way to early, they should have let the outbreak happen a little longer to get herd immunity. Have they been shut down over a month?

In South Carolina we just shut down a couple of days ago, we are developing herd immunity.

Now, when CA open back up the virus will flare up then the the CA government will have to shut down again.

The whole purpose was to slow the virus down on number of infected people needing medical service, not to stop the spread.

CA has been shut down to long, shutting down to early defeated the purpose of flattening the curve.

Going off this idea CA needs to reopen today so the virus can flare up so the herd immunity can start to take. Leave it open until you get a good documented 500,000 people infected. This will help insure the herd immunity.

I have to wonder if you catch one strain if it would help you to fight off the others.

Would any of the doctors or other knowledgable people here care to comment on this?

It’s just one patient who the authors treated with Erythropoietin (and a lot of other things) but they attribute recovery to the Erythropoietin. I’m not sure how they determine that it was the EPO. There’s almost nothing (nothing other than this one paper as far as i can tell) on the web about using EPO to treat COVID-19. Is that because it’s a far-fetched treatment that no one takes seriously?

McCulloch county finally issued a “shelter in place” order yesterday.

Mason Co. - first case
McCulloch Co. - 2
Lampasas Co. - 3
Comanche Co. - 3
Blanco Co. - 4
Colorado Co. - 4
Burnet Co. - 6
Milam Co. - 7

The map shows CV is spreading westward. The Panhandle from Abilene to Odessa to Amarillo has really exploded. Why is Lubbock in triple digits? https://txdshs.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html?fbclid=IwAR06cRM1JFF8qTscwR9TwsQKe1U2zRKgbZnULK7OxbgFBz8RbygcJYt0Ctw#/ed483ecd702b4298ab01e8b9cafc8b83

Looks like the patient was also given 1) Hydroxychloroquine Tab 400 mg stat 2) Oseltamivir Cap 75 mg twice daily for 5 days and 3) Lopinavir /Ritonavir Tab 400/100 mg twice daily for 5 days .

I wonder what made them think it was this drug and not the others that helped?

“I have to wonder if you catch one strain if it would help you to fight off the others.”

It depends.

All these reported strains are very similar, supposedly, so they might not even really be different strains, but rather minor variants. If the mutations are not related to the infection mechanism or to how your immune system “sees” the virus, immunity should be cross-strain. After that, there is a spectrum of partial immunity, or worst case no immunity, but that all depends on the nature of the variations.

Suppose you have a cat and it mutates and grows a pink hairless rat tail instead of the normal one. You will still see it as a cat. Suppose it grew a second tail. It’s still kind of a cat. Suppose instead that it mutates and turns into a wolf. Now you don’t see a cat anymore. That’s pretty much the difference between strains/variants as far as your immune system is concerned.

FNC - Ooops, Dr. Siegel saying CV has more strains/mutations than we first thought. Our west coast came from China but NY came from Europe. We didn’t understand there was a European strain. It’s changing all the time.

He went on to say vinegar does nothing to kill it.

Well, there goes the flubros’ vaccine will fix everything theory.
