Authorities continued searching Friday for two members of the Kennedy family who disappeared in the Chesapeake Bay after they had set out in a canoe to retrieve a ball in the water a mission that family said turned from rescue to recovery.
Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean, 40, and her 8-year-old son Gideon Joseph Kennedy McKean went missing near Annapolis on Thursday evening while the family had gathered at a waterfront house owned by McKeans mother, family and authorities said.

Her name long enough?
Tragic. Particularly the loss of a young child.
The Kennedys are allowed to gather?
It’s a shame. There isn’t more than 4 feet of water through much of Herring Bay. They could have ditched the canoe and walked to shore.
Very sad situation.
Royalty...in their own minds.
The Kennedys do have a strained relationship with water don’t they.
And to retrieve a ball? The Kennedys can afford enough balls to fill Madison Square Garden.
The Kennedy’s are not a smart family.
Stresses pile on top of one another and lead to panic and exhaustion.
I will wager they had no PFDs, (the water was cold,) they made the trip hurriedly, the boy had little canoeing experience, the boat “sailed away,” she got tired trying to control it or even turn it around (which is difficult in a strong breeze with a light passenger,) panic ensued, they got too high in the boat instead of kneeling, and tipped over somewhere near the channel.
Sometimes a canoe and the wind can be stronger than you are.
It has happened to me!
Should it happen to you, do not panic, stay low in the boat, get to land as long as it takes, as close as the nearest land is, and ditch the boat.
Mave Kennedy Town-(over>)send McKean.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a two-sided gravestone..
I caught that, too.
I’m sick of every 28th cousin of someone named Kennedy being in the news referred to as Kennedy family. John and Jacqueline Kennedy were treated as royalty during their lives, and that continues. Drop it. There is no royalty in this country, and the president and his wife are gone.
Just changing the subject!!!!!
question - how many threads are virus related?
Ah, memories: me, a canoe, the Ohio River stronger than you yeah, been there, done that.
Sad story. A mom and an eight year old kid. RIP.
Surely they are a low IQ bunch - or at least a deluded bunch even for the relatively higher IQ ones - with booze and drug problems that could contribute to the outlier statistics on the deaths they post, but I've often wondered about the types of deaths many famous people die - and this crew seems to do it over and over. You just wonder whether they decided there was nothing they could do to repair their lives, they were overwhelmed, and they had the means and resources to just ... disappear.
It would be tin foily if I was saying 'this is certainly what's going on' ... I'm more just saying ... 'makes you wonder.' And I don't really care ... it's just an interesting thought when it comes up.
Fame ain't always fun, it's a lot of pressure (not speaking from personal experience) ... the Kennedy's suffer from chronic mental illness and addiction problems. If I experienced what some of them must experience I might just say 'you know what, time to check out, but since we're rich and connected, checking out doesn't have to mean suicide, let's just start over.'
Almost like Galt -> but invert the quality of the character and purpose, and also no loss to civilization - in fact not hard to argue, a net gain, a true win win :-)
And airplanes...and ski slopes.
