Vanity: It's time to hold some news media criminally responsible...
My Withered Brain | 30 March 2020 | Me

Posted on 03/30/2020 6:23:51 AM PDT by Magnatron

I don't do vanities, and if it gets pulled, it gets pulled, but I need to bring up a heart-breaking episode my wife related to me.

My wife is a nurse, and she works in an assisted living facility. There are two sides to the facility, memory-care and assisted resident care. This facility is struggling with limited staff and the residents are under lockdown and not allowed to have visitors.

My wife was helping a resident -- a woman in her 80s that has been in decline. In the facility, the residents have televisions. In this particular room, CNN was on the screen.

When my wife entered the room, the frail, elderly woman was in tears. She was pointing at the television screen saying: "I'm scared, I'm scared." She truly was terrified. She was physically unable to get up and turn the channel, as many residents are. My wife turned off the TV and helped to comfort her. My wife was nearly in tears herself watching this poor woman struggle with what she saw.

We've all seen the vitriol and hopelessness that CNN and other outlets have been broadcasting to the public and the world. Even today, after the FDA announced that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine were approved for treating COVID-19, CNN in the third sentence of the article made the statement:

"But thus far, there is little scientific evidence that chloroquine, or its closely-related analogue hydroxychloroquine, are effective in treating Covid-19."

This is said in light of many studies across the globe showing hope.

And speaking of hope, we all remember the gotcha question last week that President Trump took: "Aren't you peddling false hope to Americans?"

At what point is our news media considered criminal in this type of reporting? They are terrifying people unnecessarily -- potentially driving people who are already marginal and suffering from depression to suicide over this hyperbole. The media has a responsibility to report the news, but that doesn't give them the free reign to spin it, lie, and frighten people over their hatred for one man. This is no different than shouting "Fire" in a crowded theater.

If a family member of mine committed suicide after watching this continuous train of hopelessness and fear, you can bet your ass I would be searching out a good attorney to take back my pound of flesh.

The media's response to this crisis has been nothing short of disgusting, and should -- in some cases -- be considered criminal.

This poor woman is alone. She's frail and near the end. She shouldn't be subjected to this unreasonable hatred and fear being rained upon her by every channel on her room's TV.

I've said my piece. Thanks for listening.

Nope, I will not abridge the first amendment freedom of the press by giving the government the right to criminalize speech the government does not like.

Big waste of a vanity. No such punishment will be forthcoming. The minions have been convinced their lives have to be dictated by our politicians. Completely. The politicians are having a collective orgasm at the thought, and are secretly please China will always be there to release whatever hell on Earth will come next. Try to stop it. You can’t.

I didn’t think that there could be even more reason to hate the CNN type media, but you make it clear that there is. I am Infuriated by our media, but it is so much worse for people who are terrified by them.

I gotta go with you on this one.

I didn’t see any news where the msm made up a report that didn’t exist.

“scant evidence’ and “up till now” are wrong and can be harmful to the country, but there is no crime there.

Just a complete lack of morality and hatred of America.

The old “If it bleeds, it leads” policy is working overtime.
I need to unplug at the end of the workday. just to keep my sanity. (Yes, still working)

Watching the nightly news is depressing. It’s how it works. It’s why it changed my life when I dumped TV in 1997. :)

You are absolutely right. Perhaps this is why so many are tuning in to hear the president - he is looking forward, fighting for a quick and good end to this nightmare. He offers some hope, and the media is bound, bent and determined to keep people hating this man. Fake news is not a strong enough term, IMHO. Subversive news would be a more accurate description.

The media is morally and ethically guilty, just not criminally.

Maybe we need a William Tecumseh Sherman right about now. He had some interesting ideas about “newsmen.”

Oh yeah, they're scaring the bejesus out of people, no doubt. Especially the elderly. But nothing will happen to them or what they are doing. Just like a congresscritter who can lie on the floor of the house with no consequences, the media hides behind free speech. They can say whatever in a crowded theater and its' free speech. They love the panic. It is what it is.

A woman said on twitter she came across an older lady sitting in her car at a grocery store,in tears, afraid to go in. So she offered to go in so the older lady gave her $100 to buy stuff and luckily, the woman was on the up and up and put the groceries in her trunk and gave her the change. The older woman was scared to death of the virus.

Never. The only criminal reports are those that disclose military secrets, expose spies, or teach classified cryptography capabilities and methods.

Even on the civil law, money damages side, the press by and large gets a pass unless it makes a false accusation that impugns the reputation of a non-public person.

Individuals need to learn that the press is fundamentally dishonest.

While this certainly rings of “shouting “fire!” In a crowded theater”, all news outlets would use the Rachel Madcow defense of “rhetorical hyperbole”.

Who determines which channel of TV?

The MSM can’t continue to peddle lies without taking themselves out sooner or later. Many will disagree, but people like never before has tuned them out—look at the ratings. To survive the must change.

Ditto.

Prove libel. Prove slander. (We already know they’re malicious.)

They should have locked out CNN, or at least changed the channel before they left.

This is not the first call on Freerepublic to prosecute the press, politicians or government officials over the handling of coronavirus. Each time no one has named which laws were broken or how they were broken. Without the laws that were broken and how they were broken, such calls are demanding show trials. That's not conservative at all.

Heartbreaking. An electromagnetic curtain has descended over the republic.

It’s like we DECIDE what to report, so that you can decide.

Tremendous, pre-meditated, networking capability to flip the republic and revisionist it to anything that you want it to be. Diabolic to the nth degree. So far beyond evil, I don’t even think a word exists for it. This dialectic can go on for years on multiple topics in conjunction with foreign and domestic enemies. The only way to stop it is to eliminate it by force. Our words are meaningless to this EVIL. Identify. List grievances. Eliminate.

The lie is the weapon used most often by the criminal.

Remove these impediments from your life if you can. Sometimes you’ve got to fight to be free.
