Up to 10 percent of coronavirus patients leaving medical facilities in Wuhan after being tested negative for Covid-19 seem to have subsequently been re-infected, according to the South China Morning Post. This is not the first time that there have been reports of re-infection. Nevertheless, scientists say that it is unlikely that the virus is striking twice.
Doctors in Wuhan are bemused. Healthcare workers in this central Chinese city where the coronavirus first emerged have observed several instances in which patients have left hospital with no remaining traces of the virus in their bodies and then tested positive for the coronavirus a second time.
In all, up to 10 percent of coronavirus patients seem to have been “re-infected”, according to one hospital and several quarantine centres in Wuhan, where daily life is gradually returning to normal after several months of confinement.
Tongji Hospital – where the first cases of Covid-19 were detected – announced that out of 147 patients who were sent back home within a week, five tested positive again; that is to say, 3 percent. This was the case for a higher proportion of patients in the quarantine centres, with this figure ranging from 5 to 10 percent.
Defying the laws of virology?
This is not the first time that the coronavirus has appeared to infect the same person twice. At the end of February, a 40-year-old woman tested positive ten days after leaving a healthcare centre in the Japanese city Osaka, after apparently having been “cured”.

Are the Chinese using the same test kits they sold to the world? 80% false negative???
Over past week...both Spanish and Czech officials said the same thing...Chinese test kits were predominately going to say negative in 70-to-80 percent of situations, when you actually did have the virus. So you could be at the end of two weeks of the virus, take the Chinese test saying ‘negative’ (thus feeling good about it), and still have the virus for a couple of additional days.

That’s funny, considering that they don’t apply to Chickenpox (ie Shingles).
Regarding the topic at-hand, I have an easy explanation for the cases which later test positive again with the common swab/PCR test: Hygiene.
I’ve had Wuhan Coronavirus. I’ve also had digestive issues ever since, though my appetite is normal. I firmly believe that if I had my stool tested it would test positive for the virus.
I practice good hygiene; some cultures do not. It’s not rocket science.
My hypothesis also raises extreme considerations for these democrat-led, urban cesspools (eg San Crapcisco). We shall see...
They likely passed a bad test, if you don’t sample correctly or your sample isn’t protected prior to test you get false negatives.
That’s the problem with genetic testing.

Somebody should quickly make an effort to figure out False Positive, False Negative, alpha, beta, specificity, and sensitivity.
Exactly. This is a “novel virus”. It could do anything and just about everything it does do will be surprising.
As is being reported elsewhere on FR https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3829429/posts the Spanish are finding that the Chinese test kits detect only 30% of those infected, so likely these folks were never cleared of the virus the first time round.
Hep C. It took a long time to get a regimen that worked and then it’s far from 100%.
I think they are starting to realize it can be aerosol transmitted in public in certain cases. “Super Spreaders”.
Are you strongly suspecting you had the virus or were you test confirmed?
As further evidence for your position: New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, new Orleans, and soon Houston are all "hotspots" for corona and Blue Urban Cesspools.

Right. I don’t think Chinese are stupid. I do think they are lying about pretty much everything to do with this outbreak. The Chicoms are the people who imprisoned the doctors who reported on a new virus in the first place. They just booted a bunch of American reporters out of China in the last week or so. I am sure that was not done to insure transparency. I think that probably the best course is to discount anything that the gubmint of China lets get out as propaganda. There are enough cases in reliable countries to research and draw conclusions from.
Yes, in particular those who have had no immunological response who are breeding virus, and about whom they know absolutely nothing about.
