Up to 10 percent of coronavirus patients leaving medical facilities in Wuhan after being tested negative for Covid-19 seem to have subsequently been re-infected, according to the South China Morning Post. This is not the first time that there have been reports of re-infection. Nevertheless, scientists say that it is unlikely that the virus is striking twice.
Doctors in Wuhan are bemused. Healthcare workers in this central Chinese city where the coronavirus first emerged have observed several instances in which patients have left hospital with no remaining traces of the virus in their bodies and then tested positive for the coronavirus a second time.
In all, up to 10 percent of coronavirus patients seem to have been re-infected, according to one hospital and several quarantine centres in Wuhan, where daily life is gradually returning to normal after several months of confinement.
Tongji Hospital where the first cases of Covid-19 were detected announced that out of 147 patients who were sent back home within a week, five tested positive again; that is to say, 3 percent. This was the case for a higher proportion of patients in the quarantine centres, with this figure ranging from 5 to 10 percent.
Defying the laws of virology?
This is not the first time that the coronavirus has appeared to infect the same person twice. At the end of February, a 40-year-old woman tested positive ten days after leaving a healthcare centre in the Japanese city Osaka, after apparently having been cured.

This theory/conjecture has been posited multiple times.
A definitive answer now would be good.
The way I understand how our immune system works is this:
During a viral infection, the patients body develops antibodies that are very specific to the virus that infected them and after theyve recovered, these antibodies dont disappear. They go into hibernation, and are ready to wake up as soon as the same pathogen tries to contaminate the body again. This characteristic of the immune system is the same against all known viruses.
In those reported cases of re-infections, the people concerned had been tested in the days after their discharge from hospital, which excludes the possibility that ineffective antibodies created the impression that they had contracted the coronavirus for a second time.
I question the reliability of the Chinese tests seeing how horrendously bad their test kits are.

Spanish health officials have recommended that physicians stop all use of rapid response coronavirus test kits after a batch bought from China failed to identify contagious people.
The Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology issued the recommendation after it was revealed that test kits from the Chinese firm Bioeasy presented a sensitivity of 30%, meaning that only 30% of those who have COVID-19 tested positive for it. Most tests, including rapid influenza tests in the United States, require a minimum sensitivity of 80%.

Up to 80 percent of the 300,000 rapid coronavirus test kits ordered that the Czech Republic ordered from China are not working properly, according to regional hygienists who have tried the tests.
The test kits, worth 54 million korunas (1.83 million), show false positive as well as negative results. This is because rapid tests cannot reliably detect infection in its initial phase.

MANILA - The Department of Health said Saturday some COVID-19 test kits sent by China were only “40 percent accurate” based on standards of the World Health Organization.
“The first test kits sent to us by China, that showed only 40 percent accuracy, we did not use because the accuracy rate is low. That’s why we only stored them.” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a press briefing.

There was a story yesterday of an Icelandic man infected with two different strains of CV at the same time, and that one of the strains is known only in Iceland.
Kind of belies the story I saw on Tucker about how stable the virus is, and that vaccines are likely to work.
I’m convinced that some of the tests just aren’t sensitive or specific enough.
It’s just like Chinese food. You eat it and then an hour later you’re hungry again.
there are different strains, so yes
There is a ‘virus load level’ that must be present in order for the test to accurately register a positive result.
How accurate are the testing materials/procedures?
Just remember 80% of the ChiCom tests sent to the Ukraine were defective.
Doctors in Wuhan are bemused.
Delightful.
Not unlike HIV. The virus load might be decreased by the treatment to undetectable level only to rise again.

The Chinese test gas a thirty percent false negative. That means their test is crap. Could say your cured when you arent
Bingo. Our tests are some of the most sensitive in the world - and they are 85%.
A 10% miss on a Chinese test is not hard to believe.
Everyone is jumping to blame the tests. They aren’t stupid over there. Until recently their docs had more experience with the disease than anyone, and they didn’t ignore the tests.
There are 10s of thousands of journalists in that city looking to make a big name for themselves. If they could clearly find evidence of outright lying, they would be all over it, and not just one or two of them. They would gather around the evidence and blast it out to the outside world. That hasn’t happened. Don’t make Chinese lying or Chinese incompetence the first answer to a question.
There is no rule of the universe that says antibodies for this virus have to last longer than days, rather than months. If they last only days, we have an enormous problem in that vaccines won’t work.
Actually antibodies do disappear after a while. It’s the ‘Memory B cells’ that retain memory of the virus (viral antigen, that is ). B cells are antibody factories. If these B cells encounter the same pathogen again, they will very quickly get into gear and start pumping out antibodies and the immune response will be much quicker.
Yes. Utter BS, reinfecting and reinfecting. More fear from probably really dumb people
