I stopped in at the Draeger's Supermarket in Menlo Park this afternoon and there was an armed private security guard stationed outside the store with a bullet proof vest on and a hefty sidearm in his holster. I asked him why he was stationed there and he replied that there has been an increase of people hitting stores up to the new $950 misdemeanor/felony limit. He also told of a large gang that hit a grocery store in Mexico City (story below). He said that the police were outnumbered and stood down.
It was a bit of shock seeing an armed police presence outside a high-end store in a wealthy town.
We have security in our grocery stores here in Arizona. Seems a bit odd.
Not really. You realize how much cash they are handling now?
NJ Shoprite market armed guard also
Twenty years ago, on a trip to Mexico, we were told that to use the restroom we HAD to purchase several sheets of toilet paper. We could not bring our own.
Sure enough, at the line to use the rest room was a table, a man selling toilet paper by the sheet, and a burly uniformed armed guard behind him.
We bought the paper.
I think I got it 1 armed guard against a large gang. Ok
On it here too
A new job for the National Guard?
North Idaho?
But the law abiding citizens are properly awed and cowed. They won’t be trying anything. But then they didn’t try anything when there were no armed guards either.

I have a better idea, make California the U.S. again.
Ours just sit out front in a marked car.

Your homepage has a wonderful essay. Never read anything like it summarizing in a few paragraphs the meaning and legacy of Trumps election. The world seems to be coming apart at the seams right now. Very thankful Trump is our president now.
In the meat department?
Similar in the Middle East. You have to tip the lady to get a few squares. We started bringing our own.
You stumped me!
Thanks for the kind words! Take care.
if there is looting and I am sure there is, the media will never ever report it especially if its one particular clientele.
When stupid people vote for even more stupid people and put the even more stupid people into government, this is the end result. If stealing less than $950 is no longer illegal (which is effectively what it is if not enforced), why is the cop even there?
This is why I am not a proponent of this thing we call democracy. On the other hand, I say the Constitutional Republic form of government we have at our federal level (which is democratic is nature but is not democracy) “is the worst form of government except for all those other others.” Shout out to Winston Churchill for using his quote.

No, that would require everyone from Sacramento to the local DA and judges taking retail theft seriously. In CA, that ain't happening.
