The unproven claim that an antimalarial drug can cure coronavirus - called a 'game-changer' and a 'gift from God' by Donald Trump - has been promoted by a crypto-currency lawyer who has made a string of bogus claims, DailyMail.com can reveal.
Gregory Rigano made a series of Fox News and conservative and Christian radio appearances to tout the idea that chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine 'cures' conronavirus.
The anti-malaria drug is now the subject of series of clinical trials, including in New York, where the state received 10,000 doses.
It has been praised by Trump repeatedly - but the first time he did, at the White House last Friday, epidemiologist Tony Fauci stepped in to warn it was not scientifically proven to be effective and safe.
Trump amplified the case for the drug again on Twitter Monday amid apparent public tensions with Fauci.
Now a DailyMail.com investigation reveals how:

He may have been promoting it, but these drugs have been used by physicians in this country and Europe with very good results. So I’m not sure what he point of this article is, other than to try and embarass our president.
Rubbish. Fake News. The French issued a report.
The Daily Mail.
Knew without having to look.
Did you read the article?
The article is not rubbish. But it is CRAZY
This article is simply throwing smoke to confuse people.
Kinda like Hitler used vitamins so, therefore, vitamins are evil.
There is a TON of money at stake.
Look for more of this.
If the French sre using it, it isn’t doing much. New cases up a thou and deaths up as well from yesterday
Follow the money. See who had interested in Gilead, that manufacture of remdesivir. This is one of the reasons they are quashing the hope of the trump pills.
Even Fauci said he would administer & take the drug himself.
So have several doctors.
This is like saying Charles Manson ate hamburgers, Trump likes hamburgers, therefore Trump is a mass murder who supports Charles Manson.
He wants you to wait for a new, improved, EXPENSIVE, drug. That's what the FDA does....sleeps with the Pharm companies.
In the meantime, it's being used, is cheap and successful.
Exactly. The French, the Australians, The doctor at Lenox Hill and other independent researchers have come to the conclusion the hydroxychloroquine esp with Azithromycin has an excellent cure rate.
This is one more in the long series of fake news articles. Perhaps a germ of truth about the person targeted perhaps not but not one bit of relevance about the drug therapy. There still exist the same number of studies, case reports & results.
Daily Mail is anti-Trump Chinese propaganda. The story has been dangled online at various sites as bait to Trump for a week He didnt bite, so another Chinese failure.
My local physician has been using these drugs to counter symptoms in people hes suspected of having the virus. This is nothing new.
“So Im not sure what he point of this article is, other than to try and embarrass our president.”
You answered your own question. There are numerous stories of this Medication helping. The President said IF it works it would be a gift from God, which it would be. So the snarky author of this story can go F themselves.
this story is so insane. People here clearly arent paying attention to the story
THe question is WHY would this guy do this?
Is he a Chinese Spy...or working for a drug company...or Soros ...or is he just mentally ill.
plaquenil was touted even back in the SARS days....
Yes, the article is Rubbish. This hoaxter is not the origin of the French protocol.
Take the gas-lighting somewhere else.
