A cruise ship carrying at least 77 people with flu-like symptoms on board is on its way to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., according to a statement from the cruise line. The ship, MS Zaandam, intends to arrive in Fort Lauderdale on Monday, March 30 but cruise line Holland America notes that “plans are still being finalized.”snip
Zaandam left Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 7 on a trip that was supposed to end in San Antonio, Chile on March 21 — but that route was disrupted over coronavirus concerns. Holland America announced on March 13 that it would suspend its global cruise operations for 30 days “due to the continued port closures and travel restrictions surrounding COVID-19 and in an abundance of caution.”

95% chance your cruise will sail on time. Did you buy insurance? We never buy insurance on our 30+ cruises but times have changed with covid-19.
Wife and I have a Baltic cruise scheduled, but not till July 2021.
Hopefully by then this will have burned through.
They should dump the whole boatload in Haiti, not Fort Lauderdale.

That cruise started in a Florida port, and returning to the same port. There are people on the ship with cars parked at the port or return flights purchased from that port.
Hmmm. Good question. My sister has done all the planning and coordinating working with the travel agent. (She’s good at all that stuff...a group of about 10 of us. Our job is to show up ;) )
What would you call a floating city, completely isolated from outside variables, with folks tightly packed in, with a majority elderly...????

The last 5 years I have done a Boston to Bermuda cruise in October because we don't need to fly to do that cruise.
My wife came down with Alzheimers6 years ago and is OK on a cruise, but the flying is too much of an adventure now, so we will be leaving from Boston. -Tom
All of you hate cruises please never book a cruise. That way prices will not jump higher. There are actually cruise haters who have never taken a cruise on a modern luxury ship. Something similar to virgins who hate sex because you can get STD from it.
Ok, Cruise ships need to rebrand. Now its a cruise ship. But its also an adventure. And a wait loss program. Join the ship with a very cheap flight. Then you may get bonus days if the ship is placed in quarantine. How great is that.
I did an autumn east coast cruise from New York up to Canada and back some years ago. I think it was a seven day cruise with about five stops, including St. John and Halifax among others. Very enjoyable. Gambled in the ship’s casino and won back all my daily charges for the cruise. It wound up being a nearly free vacation. And, the private tours we took in St John’s and Halifax were very rewarding. In Halifax we learned how the dead recovered from the sunk Titanic were nearly all taken to three cemeteries in Halifax.
