I've been monitoring a lot of local San Francisco Bay Area boards for what people are doing during the "Shelter In Place" order. Turns out the outdoor trails are full with crowds not seen in years. It's like people are treating this as an unexpected paid holiday. Here is a sampling of what I've found...
San Francisco became a beautiful city AFTER it burned to the ground in 1906. I am not making any suggestions.
Well, here in Midwest, its been, you know, winter. And Spring is itchn to, well, Spring. If I can get a half way warm dry day, Im getting on my cycle on going for a ride!
IM GOING STIR CRAZY HERE!
I figure Ill head downtown and see how deserted it is.
Kids and grandkids went on a nice bike ride around Moraga. Beautiful day. What are ya gonna do?
i’m in the bay now too and it’s stupid. i heard about the panhandle and it makes you wonder what people are thinking. i’ve just been walking around neighborhoods and they’re uniformly empty. if people keep failing at distancing the gov’t is going to step in more and i’m dreading that.
probably but they’re doing it wronger :)

Or, if you become a couch potato, you’ll get a heart attack and be in the same hospital bed. Damed if you do...
It’s generally easy to avoid crowds on trails, especially once you get past the half-mile point where the herd thins out a lot.
I spent from before Christmas to March 1 at our North Idaho house doing improvement projects. I spend about ten weeks with cloud cover, a few good snowstorms, and hardly any sunshine. I came back to the SF Bay Area just in time for “Shelter in Place.” My wife hopped in her car with the dog and took off for Idaho this past Tuesday and reports every day has been close to 60 with brilliant sunshine! She and the dog are out hiking the mountains and lakes with friends every day.
It just ain’t fair!!
I say GO FOR IT! Fresh air, sunshine, exercise and I’m sure you are PLENTY far enough away from other people.
Our gyms closed, so my son was exercising on the equipment at the local school yesterday. A few others were out on the sports field working their dogs. People were separated by 50 to 200 feet.
Police came by and said “School is closed - you have to leave.”
Technically the cop was right and just doing his job, but it seems we’ve taken leave of our common senses.

No way we’re getting out of this life alive.
...and taxes, too.
No on both counts, and I feel no deprivation or regret whatsoever.
You can have my share, and good riddance to it.
And yet, your double post has subliminally planted a burning sensation in my mind...😝
get yourself back to Idaho!
Part of the problem is we have had several weeks if rain in addition to the shelter-in-place. I’ve been going to on open preserve between San Jose and Morgan Hill. Today was crowded. I don’t think I’ll go in the weekend again.
I’m afraid they will issue a real stay at home order because there are too many big groups.
Here’s a famous film shot just a few days before the earthquake/fire. They’ve added sound, like horse hooves, car engines...

Since she was halfway home, she continued on vice turning back to empty out her dorm.
We drove back to SF this past Friday morning, took the 5/405/101--a straight shot through LA with so little traffic at a time when it normally would be bumper-to-bumper. Made it into the city in 9 hours. Got her stuff packed and into my car in about 2 hours, and left. I did see people walking around, lots of joggers/runners.
We spent the night in Salinas Friday night and drove home yesterday. Again, little traffic. As we neared Santa Barbara, could see quite a few cars parked at the beaches, thought the state beaches/campgrounds were closed.
North of Ventura, at Sea Cliff, pretty crowded with campers along the PCH there.
