I was notified the 1st of March that I was in a jury pool to be assembled on April 1 at the district courthouse. That will be a group of a couple of hundred people. Has the call been canceled or postponed because of the limit on meetings. I am 81 years old and diabetic so am a high risk person. I do not want to be exposed to the virus. Thank you.

Depends where you are. In PA, courts are closed to normal trials.

You can:

1) Call the court Monday morning.

Or,

2) Post a vanity on FR without telling us which court it even is.

No way should you do that.
Even if it’s not called off, get a note from your doctor and call the courthouse ahead of time.

I too got a jury duty notice a couple of weeks ago (Allen TX municipal court) for April 1. Yesterday I got a letter saying that I was dismissed from duty without explanation.

Yes, if they have closed the court systems. No, if they haven't.

I suggest that you call the court system you have been called to participate in the jury pool. If they are open tell them about your age & health conditions. If they are operating I am sure they will tell you not to appear for the jury pool.

He’s in New Mexico, according to his home page.

New Mexico has a statutory exemption that allows individuals over a certain age to request exemption from jury duty. Citizens over the age of 75 can be exempt from jury service under this age exception.

In Texas it's 70.

You need to contact your district courthouse that summoned you.
Look for the phone number on your jury summons.
Why would people not even in your vicinity know what your local authorities have decreed?
Sheesh.

A lady we know (she is a lawyer and a former asst DA in another county) had been called up for a federal grand jury in SF.

She originally had no problem.

However, when this flu started raising its head, she became concerned due to personal long term health issues and asked to be excused until this is over.

At first she was told no. She comes from a family of lawyers and is married to one.

After some phone calls, she and her fellow jury group were told to stay at home.

In most states you are exempt from jury duty if you’re older than a certain age. Since you’re 81, you should look into that.

All our courts in Florida are shut down on jury trials, face to face non-jury trials. Only paperwork etc

You must live in a real crap hole of a county.

Here in my little backwater county in WV I haven’t had to serve since I turned 65. Just as well, though. Between bathroom breaks and inability to sit in a comfortable chair listening to some asswipe lawyer drone on and on without falling asleep wouldn’t serve either side well.

NJ state courts technically not closed. No in person proceedings, however. I was summoned for petit jury duty on April 9 but that has been postponed, of course.
