Say, now that government industries are collapsing, shouldn't all these surplus teachers and government workers be retrained as coders?

That's what they offered all the surplus coal miners and oil field workers when they wanted to collapse their industries.

Govt workers are spoiled for regular, (real person) employment.

I hope the situation will improve and then teachers and government workers can get back to doing nothing.

Teachers world can end up with REAL bad consequences too.

Then again, maybe dogs need walking, they could do that?

I wouldn't trust them with my dog. No way!

My former colleagues in the NYC school system are not just sitting around at home. They had to go to school to receive training in long distance learning so they can deliver lesson material to their students. The problem is not with the teachers; it is with the parents. Many of them are overwhelmed by the current situation and cannot spend time with their students to help them handle this unfamiliar way of learning. Many parents and other caregivers still aren’t even aware that long distance learning is even taking place. I remember parent teacher nights, finding parents who weren't even aware that it was report card time. Some of them didn't even know their kid wasn't attending school, or what classes they were taking.

There will be numerous distractions to tuning into daily lessons, such as TV, small siblings screaming and running around, being made babysitters by parents for the smaller siblings instead of being able to devote time for the lessons, etc. A LOT of kids will take advantage of the situation and simply not do anything. And with an idiot like DumblASSio for mayor, excuses will be found for those kids, and the teachers will be forced to pass them anyway, as usual.

Many households do not have more than one computer--especially in poorer areas, and have multiple children who need to use it to access their lessons. It's going to be a huge mess, and I doubt much learning will get done, despite the teachers spending time preparing lessons and loading them up on the app.

The bottom line is, NYC teachers ARE indeed required to teach during these coronavirus times, and they most definitely are not sitting around on their duffs doing nothing. That was very irresponsible for some of you to generalize.

NYC teachers receiving training Tuesday, the first of several days of such training to enable them to prepare online lessons.

I’m only telling you what is happening in my kids school.

I’m shocked that they’ve simply been sent on a long vacation.

excuse me though...doesn’t NYC have teachers sit in large rooms and do nothing while being paid while they’re being investigated for some serious grievance?..

There were only 8-10 teacher’s cars at my kids’ school today with total teachers around 30.

Their “industry” is not teaching, it’s Big Government.

That’s why the area around D.C. including northern Virginia is the richest region in the country — the most government-saturated region, all sustained by leeching off the real economy of the private sector.

That’s why the teacher’s unions continue to dictate the teaching agenda, and why at least 30 percent of young people under 30 support the capitalistic communist Bernie Sanders.

That’s why kids don’t know history, and what they do “know” is wrong and anti-American.

The fact is we could have converted to online teaching years and years ago. But PARENTS don’t want to parent, they want to leave it up to the government to raise the kids while they both work so they can have a bigger house and more stuff. Because they are SELFISH.

Screw the schools, convert them to hospitals, burn them down, or use them to store toilet paper stockpiles. What we really need is more parenting, less government, lower taxes and more freedom.

We homeschooled all three of ours all the way through. And unfortunately I still have to pay property taxes to support the massively unsuccessful public schools. The private schools are only marginally better (mostly because they are more selective). As for the universities, they are almost universally HORRIBLE. The best thing you can do is prepare your kid for the college experience by instilling in them your conservative values, so they can resist the indoctrination without your presence.

To my absolute shock and horror, they were not given an online account, curriculum, homework, studies...NOTHING. Asinine.

Start them going through the Prager University Curriculum, then enroll them in a few Hillsdale College online courses, they’re free. Those will undo the damage public schools have done. Require them to write a report on each PragerU video.

No need. Teachers are just on vacation. They’ll still be paid all year.

Some might find work at the cell block where Epstein (Ahem) was murdered. I hear there are some openings.

Amazon needs about 100,000 temporary workers. And last I heard there were a lot of openings for truck drivers. So, there’s always hope.

Why? Did teachers actually stop getting paid. Nationally they are unionized dem laborers. I am actually shocked at the salaries and benefits of the 2 I know.
