Covid-19 cases as of 3-16-20 compared with 2018 death rates for the Flu.
While Covid-19 has hardly competed its run, nor has the flu, yet for comparison with the flu we have the morality rate for the flu per state in 2017-2018 and total deaths, which I have provided along side the latest Covid counts (3-16-20 ) to the table below. Additional stats on the 2019-2020 Flu season are provided below the the table.
During the 2017-2018 season, the percentage of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza (P&I) was at or above the epidemic threshold for 16 consecutive weeks. Nationally, mortality attributed to P&I exceeded 10.0% for four consecutive weeks, peaking at 10.8% during the week ending January 20, 2018, (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season-2017-2018.htm) with older Americans dying at a rate of 169 Americans a day, or seven people per hour. (https://www.aarp.org/health/conditions-treatments/info-2018/older-flu-deaths-rising.html
And according to a later report by the CDC, for 2017-2018 season 80,000 people died of the flu in U.S, the highest death toll in 40 years. (https://www.usnews.com/news/health-care-news/articles/2018-09-27/cdc-80-000-people-died-of-flu-complications-last-season-in-us)
Meanwhile, for Covid, the NYT (3-13) sounded this alarm: Between 160 million and 214 million people in the U.S. could be infected over the course of the epidemic, according to one projection. That could last months or even over a year, with infections concentrated in shorter periods, staggered across time in different communities, experts said. As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die. (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/13/us/coronavirus-deaths-estimate.html)
Below is a list of states per currently reported COVID-19 infections (by CNN, of 3-12-20) in comparison with population size (note that variations in reported cases are partly be due to how comprehensive testing can and has been done). Use an online calculator here, (see second row under Percentage Calculator in Common Phrases, and remove commas in population figure) for cases as a percent of population.
In any case, I pray that this crisis, both real and inflated, works to bring souls to realize the need for help from above, for repentance and mercy from God through faith in the risen Lord Jesus.

Somehow it will be used.
A reasoned analysis which my post should provoke. Thank you.
I’m a long-time (14 years) volunteer at my local hospital. Got the E-mail yesterday that all volunteer functions are suspended until further notice. I’m now looking for an opportunity to temporarily volunteer here in my community.
2018 death rates for the Flu
Your screen name seems more relevant these days. But the living God is our refuge and strength. Amen
The flu and COVID-19 started about the same time and each started in a single place, yet, the flu has spread and killed far more than the dramabug.
Thanks. I will be using Covid-19 dramabug!
May God bless you for doing such things as is our duty to do.
Ladders are focused killers of the older male population, too.
Like Leftists, their wives force them to climb ladders and perform unsafe tasks for their age in the hope they will tumble to their deaths! (only kidding there...)
bkmk
Listening to the press conference now - they are getting ready to send most Americans cash asap. The economy has to be on the verge of going over the cliff. Meanwhile fewer than 100 Americans have died. What a fiasco this all is.
Correction: Below is a list of states per currently reported COVID-19 infections (by NPR, of 3-16-20)
In fact, Hong Kong doctors recently questioned possible loss of lung capacity from some recovered Cornovirus victims.
People who fully recover from the coronavirus can be left with '20 to 30%' less lung function [TR]
Remember in November!
MAGA, also KAGA! (Keep America Great Always!)
Supporting PDJT with a new patriot Congress that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA will effectively give fast-working Trump a third term in office imo.
Clogged gutters has probably killed or maimed many a good fellow.
Mar 11, 2020, 2:18 PM: Before the coronavirus hit the Life Care Center in Kirkland, Washington, 120 seniors lived there. Now there are fewer than 50. - https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-deaths-washington-nursing-home-outbreak-2020-3
Over 51 coronavirus cases have been confirmed among Life Care residents. Those experiencing acute symptoms have been transferred to hospitals. Still in the facility are 49 residents, 21 of whom have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
"Can" is speculative as regards permanence. Meanwhile, if you do not engage in short-term strenuous exercise that requires deep breathing along with increased heart rate - while you still can - and are overweight, then I think you will have less lung function, but that by doing the above it can improve it. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/if-a-persons-lung-size-ca/
can you supply a link to directly access and copy the image that has the list of states with the various counts for each state.
I want to share that all by itself outside FR.
Bathtubs? Left that one out. See https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3825081/posts
What they accuse you of, is what they are guilty of.
That pertains to ALL socialists/communists whether it be demoRATS or Red Chinese.
They have been claiming that the US Military is responsible for this virus.
Maybe, by the grace of God. PDF is here , but you mean this (2 parts):

Well, actually, I was trying to get the multi-colored chart (list) image(s) without the preceding or following text.
Using the whole PDF, or even the parts hosted at flicker, include text I am not interested in. I’d have to use some “photoshop” type app to cut out the chart.
Did you compose the PDF?
