The world is crazy (grocery shopping)
Me | 3/16/2020 | Little old me

Holy moley!

I have a bit of a cold or something. I am out of Kleenex for my constantly runny nose (yeah, I know *yech* TMI -- but it is important to the story).

I always get up early, so I ran to the nearby Ralphs which purpotes to be open 24 hrs. I encounter a hand-written sign "open from 8 AM to 8 PM."

Well, dangit!

OK, I go back at 8 AM. There is a HUGE LINE to get in!! There was a clerk at the door managing the line so she says I have to wait until the line finishes.

Fair enough. It took the line 10 minutes to finish. When I got to the paper goods, I literally got the last box of Kleenex and the second to the last 8 back of : paper towels. Toilet paper: gone. By the time I snagged the Kleenex and paper towels the shelf was empty!

I have to ask W T H??? Fortunately at home we have Costco levels of this stuff. You preppers can get rich reselling your supplies.

I am on the road in CA (I live in TX) so I can only do what I can do.

Been "prepping" for a number of years - not the same as hoarding.

Have gotten used to keeping a mega package of TP and paper towels on top of my stores rack. When I crack it open it's time to pick up a new one.
Open a bottle of bleach - pick up a new gallon, etc.

I figured most Freepers were on that page. Sad to see many are not.

“””””you don’t need gloves for daily activities....simply wash your hands.....”””””””””

I only wear them in the shop when working on some nasty stuff.

My post was to indicate that everything like that has been sold out.

Supermarket in North Jersey yesterday. No toilet paper. No bread (none, of any kind. I wanted English muffins!). A bit light on fresh veggies.

That was about it. Smallish crowd, no mania. Everybody seemed to be having a pleasant day.

Imagine how many addicts get their incomes from restaurant, booze joint and entertainment businesses. There are also many others who didn’t save for a time like this. Notice that increasingly more people have been misbehaving on our highways over the past couple of decades. See Florida Man in every state. Maybe there will be some brawls in the stores in a few days, and maybe riots and looting soon after.

Have you contacted your local Costco on how much tp they have?

Pretty much all TX grocers have 8-8 opening times. No such thing as 24/7 since Friday.

Lol!!! Too funny!

And what is the deal with sugar now? My hubby went to Sam’s and found Members Mark all gone. The stupid hoarders planning on having a cookie contest or something?

"You preppers can get rich reselling your supplies."

As unrealistic as many of the preppers are in some ways, most of them aren't planning on selling their supplies. I'm not a prepper but do try to save just enough in advance to maybe get through a difficult time.

With an epidemic knocking on our national door, maybe the producers and supermarkets should have provided more items of some kinds a few weeks in advance. They had more than enough warning and shouldn't want their businesses full of infected people a week or two from now.

Exactly what we’ve been doing for over 10 years now.

The grocery list is comprised of what we’ve used up the previous month.

Walmart.com is sold out of most flour. I just hope most of these purchasers use this as a time to learn to cook and bake. Lots of vids out there to replace the time mom/grandma didn’t have to this the under 40’s how to do that stuff.

Feed store- equine pine pellets for horse stall bedding makes better cat litther... than cat litter, and cheaper. No bad odor at all even if they use it for a whole month before you change it, though you shouldn’t let it go that long.

My daughter was at ShopRite and all the cashiers were open and busy. My daughter found the store manager and gave him some $$$ to buy a treat for all those working today. One cashier heard her and said she was going to cry.

Mostly we needed to make sure we had cat food. Priorities, doncha know!!
