Pavel Daryl Kem Senou, a Cameroonian student in China “became the first African person known to be infected with the deadly coronavirus and the first to recover.” Some sources are claiming that African skin resists the coronavirus because of superior genetics. Is there truth to this?
This claim started because the first African to be infected with the Coronavirus, Pavel Daryl Kem Senou, responded well to medical treatment, unlike thousands of others (non-africans) who contracted the virus and died soon after.
One of the first Cameroonian general information websites reports, Journalducameroun.com reports, “The Chinese Embassy in Yaounde has announced that after receiving medical treatment, Pavel Daryl Kem Senou, Cameroonian student residing in China, recently infected with the Coronavirus pandemic is faring well.“
Does this mean Africans skin can resist the Coronavirus? Snopes, a fact checking site says it’s a lie.
“…The website Cityscrollz.com falsely reported that a Cameroonian college student studying in China contracted coronavirus but recovered “because of his blood genetic composition which is mainly found in the genetic composition of subsaharan Africans.”
If such a claim, that people from African backgrounds are more resistant to coronavirus than others, were true, one would expect it to be a major news story. Instead, it’s being reported exclusively in viral social media posts and junk sites. That’s because it’s not true.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), anyone who comes into close contact with someone infected with the coronavirus is at risk for contracting it.“
As of now, there seems to be little concrete evidence pointing to black people being able to resist the coronavirus 100%.
However, the benefits of melanin (internal and external) must be considered when talking about black people resisting the coronavirus. Sure that young Cameroonian student received medical treatment which obviously aided in the recovery, but did his high levels of melanin help him avoid death?
A study done by The National Center of Biological Health shows that melanin levels in an organism may affect the ability to resist disease and viruses.
“Once exposed to parasites, individuals often vary in their physiological ability to resist the infection either by killing or removing parasites. Melanin-based coloration could have several influences here.”
The report goes on to say, ” melanin is tightly linked to the immune system, for instance, through pleiotropic effects of melanocortins that can bind to various receptors in the skin and in the immune cells. This could enable differently coloured individuals to mount different immune responses and limit parasite proliferation.“
So although Africans and other black people may not be 100% resistant to the virus, melanin levels do play a significant factor in why Africans and other black people who have been exposed to the virus have not become infected or dead at least not at the same rate of people with lower levels of melanin.
What is the Coronavirus? According to the World Health Organization (who.com), “Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses found in both animals and humans. Some infect people and are known to cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).“

I’m white but, I tan well. My melanin appears to be in stealth mode until activated by sunlight. Does this mean I’m safe?
Different genetic groups may have different levels of susceptibility to infection. There are more genetic differences between blacks and other races than just melanin levels.

This is a dangerous line of speculation for black people in America, who average 25% white ancestry. Even if there is some genetic resistance, and it’s certainly possible, they’re not pure African from Cameroon now are they?
Wuhan Coronavirus is all over Africa now and its going to look worse then Italy once it firmly establishes itself.
I believe Cameroon has the lowest average IQ of any country at about 60.
It will be interesting to see if Serge Ibaka (from Congo) gets it from guarding that idiot Rudy.

Kinda like the tribsmen who went to the Witch Doctor and paid him to cast a spell that would cause bullets to miss them. After a number of them got hit and killed, his business was being threatened he instructed his new clients that unless they followed his instructions to the letter, the spell would not work. If they got hit it was because that they did not follow his instructions.

Melanin is an antioxidant. It fights the aging process and can help ward off some diseases as well. White people, lacking the melanin, are born with higher levels of the antioxidant superoxide dismutase (sod) to perform a similar function. Levels vary with genetics, but white people generally have a lot higher sod levels than black people. The problem is that melanin levels generally remain constant, while SOD levels drop with age. This is why black people tend to show fewer physical signs of aging than white people.
This makes me wonder what effect exogenous SOD might have on the coronavirus. I might have to up my supplementation. I already suspected this, but based on research I had read, went with higher glutathione supplementation instead. I guess there’s no reason not to do both.

Reminds me of a si-fi story I read about fifty five years ago.
An American scientist accidentally discovers a catalyst that causes yellow rats and mice to die. Anything with a yellow tinge in it’s skin dies.
When he shows this to a scientific delegation he warns the Chinese scientists to stay back.
After they return home, the Chinese scientists order variations of the catalyst and 1000 white mice, “NO! Make that 10,000 white mice and rats”.
They may not have been any studies done, but it doesn’t take a genius to realize that this isnt hitting blacks nearly like any other racial group. At most it is just like a mild flu reaction.
