Just got back from Safeway in Mountain View, California and I took notice of peoples' priorities in the current COVID-19 hysteria.
Pasta and tomato sauce -- wiped out...
Paper goods - cleaned out...
And right next to the paper goods section...Condoms - PLENTIFUL!
No actually, what are these people thinking? Really, why are they doing this?
I’ve heard because they won’t have to be in a public place like a grocery store for awhile. Sounds ludicrous but I can’t figure out what these people are thinking.
I also noticed the mood in Safeway was decidedly quiet and somber. The normal background noise of happy shoppers chatting was completely gone. It was very still and people’s faces were exactly sparkling. The background shopping music was more noticeable than usual because everything else was so quiet.
Well, whatever.
I’m old, and my company is allowing me to work from home.
I made sure the freezer was full of stuff we would want to eat, the pantry is stocked, and yes I got toilet paper a week ago before the rush.
I also got cash from the ATM, figuring now is the time to get relatively DRM-free money.
Tomorrow morning I’ll visit the produce store, and then hunker down for a while.
Um...care to rephrase?
Ration cards — I wonder if the federal Task Force has discussed that? I wouldn’t be surprised if they had begun thinking about that a month ago.
It’s getting close to time to get seeds in the ground here in the SF Bay Area. I’ve been wondering the past month if there will be runs on seeds as planting time gets near.
whatever. Extra gas, propane, generator, guns, ammo, plenty of well water. Ive been prepared for years. Prudence. Prepared.
Me too!
And that is what people who havent prepared are trying to do in a day or two.
My wife and I went last night to Sam’s club to do our regular shopping for home and office. I never saw the place so crowded and the aisles were mostly empty. I overheard the butcher talking to a customer explaining he needs to arrive at 6 am otherwise the meat will be gone .
“Idaho now has two cases.”
Bummer...yesterday it was zero, one of the Final Three.
Expect a baby boom in nine months!
No self-rising flour? People think they have that little time left?
I’m concerned because there was no shortage of toothpaste.
Baby boom in 9m
Some people aren’t thinking about what to eat if they are sick. They’re not going to want heavy meals.
When I go to the store Sunday evening, I will write a check to do my part.

Always good to have at least two weeks to a months worth on hand.
Because you never know.
I drove by a couple of local fast food and chain restaurants today, based on the cars in the parking lot it seemed like a normal Saturday
Let’s hope so!
Fear, anxiety, on all faces. Overheard one woman ask her husband why are we doing this? A woman looked me in the eyes, she was confused and overwhelmed, obviously wanting reassurance. Some were looking at other shoppers like they were zombies.
Panic is on the brink.
If you are set with supplies now, make sure you have ammunition too: if civilizations breaks down, the uglies will be coming to take what you have.
