The Trump Presidency Is Over
The Atlantic ^ | 3/13/20 | Peter Wehner

Posted on 03/13/2020 2:01:13 PM PDT by justme4now

It has taken a good deal longer than it should have, but Americans have now seen the con man behind the curtain.

When, in January 2016, I wrote that despite being a lifelong Republican who worked in the previous three GOP administrations, I would never vote for Donald Trump, even though his administration would align much more with my policy views than a Hillary Clinton presidency would, a lot of my Republican friends were befuddled. How could I not vote for a person who checked far more of my policy boxes than his opponent?

What I explained then, and what I have said many times since, is that Trump is fundamentally unfit—intellectually, morally, temperamentally, and psychologically—for office.

It took until the second half of Trump’s first term, but the crisis has arrived in the form of the coronavirus pandemic, and it’s hard to name a president who has been as overwhelmed by a crisis as the coronavirus has overwhelmed Donald Trump.

Don’t get your hopes up Wiley E. Wehner, the A.C.M.E. Virus isn’t going to work any better than the A.C.M.E. Muller Report or the A.C.M.E. Impeachment or anything else. You will just be disappointed again. It must be awful to have TDS so bad.

“His problem is that when daddy Wehner saw him at birth he gave him the middle name of “Little”.

Peter Little Wehner”

Better yet, his nickname was Dick, Peter Little Dick Wehner

Peter Wehner.

Because one of your names being a euphemism for a dick just isn’t enough.

If you think this article is bad, you should read the one Krugman wrote about the end of Trump ... I don’t want to post it here on FR since we don’t have anything worse than a barf alert for his nonsense.

Funny side note ... I think the markets are done falling ... Krugman made his “destroyed economy” claim again ... The article was released earlier today iirc :-). That man must cry himself to sleep every night.

Projection again. Liberals.

Exactly. Projection again, and again, and again. It's not sane. Maybe Jordan Peterson can explain it.

He misspelled his OWN name! I’m sure it’s spelled Weiner, as in WEENIE. Looks like they ran that piece a little soon; today was another big win for President Trump.

I wasn’t a FReeper back then, but I stopped loving George W. when, after 911, he stood and denied the evil of islam.

President Trump, since during the campaign, seems to have in interesting personality trait. He's bored easily, highly intelligent, and jumps from one thought to another. He only puts in that 100% effort when things are slipping away. He seems to focus better on solving real challenges than he does with the simple stuff.

Putting together the team he did to work on all aspects of Coro and the economy? That press conference today, where he described a plan that left nothing unattended to, was out-of-the-park impressive. Can anyone say with a straight face that hillary and her band of incompetents and crooks could've accomplished anything near that?

Those with TDS are still totally unhinged. I wonder if at some level they're really greatful President Trump is in charge.

This lunatic thinks Hillary Clinton is fit intellectually, morally, temperamentally, and psychologically for office. Think about that. There are many data points that suggest she’s unhinged. Then there’s the cattle futures, the Rose Law firm billing records, Madison Trust, Travelgate (where she tried to frame Billy Dale), the email server and obstruction of justice etc. Trump has nothing remotely comparable in his background.

Wehner is a lunatic.

I believe that, when this is all over, President Donald J. Trump will be recognized by all but the incurably partisan as having capably lead the nation through a major health crisis. His reelection will be assured.

"If there is no cure, and if we are treating symptoms, why does testing even matter?"

I only began to appreciate the importance of your question in the last day or two.

If the rate of infection is fast, then the peak number of people who are sick at the same time is higher than if the rate of infection is slow.

Since the fraction of people with life-threatening conditions can be presumed to be a constant, that means that the number of people with life-threatening conditions is proportional to the number of people who are infected at any given time.

The U.S. has a roughly fixed number of medical personnel, a fixed number of hospital beds, and a fixed number of ventilators used to keep people with serious breathing problems alive.

If we can cut the rate of new infections in half, by using isolation techniques and better hygiene, then that reduces by half the number of ventilators we will need to save some lives.

When we are talking about a population of over 300 million people, then we might have ten million people infected at one time. If 100 thousand of those face a life-threatening situation, then we might have enough ventilators to nurse them through the crisis.

If, instead, twenty million are infected at one time, then that would double the number with life-threatening conditions. If that results in not having enough ventilators, then the death rate for those who don't get the best treatment will soar.

That is why we face a crisis and why the ability to slow the spread of the disease, even though there is no cure, is critical. Furthermore, even those who might not have had life-threatening conditions might do poorly if denied any medical treatment at all.

This is why my wife and I are practicing "social distancing" as it is called to delay as long as possible any chance of getting the virus. It is why EVERYONE really needs to do the same. Those who are likely to have light symptoms will be saving the lives of those who are likely to have difficulties.

US mortality rate 2%. Sounds about right for a developed country where the illness rate is low enough not to jam the hospitals as it has in Italy where the rate is approaching 5%.

Check this article about anti-pandemic spending from 2 years ago. The government funded CDC cut the program because they didn’t have the money.

Finally some one with sense about the importance of testing. This evening I went to a Harris Teeter grocery to stock up at 10 pm. Few people, much social distancing. No toilet paper, almost no pasta, few lower cost frozen veggies, most fresh baked bread gone. Various empty bins in the produce section. A lot of fresh chicken gone. A lot of the junkier dry cereal gone.

Here is something that Trump did not correct at the time it became a problem.

Israel is the new leader in technology, biotechnology, medicine, etc. The Palestinians kept it a barren wasteland for centuries. The Israelis transformed it in less than 70 years.
