One day inside probably wont hugely affect your healthbut its not great to constantly stay cooped up from morning until dark. The biggest issue is that entering hibernation mode means you dont get any exposure to natural light. Sunlight tends to improve your mood, and it helps your body produce vitamin D, which has been shown to help regulate the immune system, reduce inflammation in the body, and more. Sunlight also helps keep your internal body clock on schedule; your circadian rhythm plays a major part in regulating your appetite, sleep schedule, and energy levels...
Also, a study out of University of Glasgow in Scotland found that people who walked, ran, or biked in nature had a lower risk of poor mental health than people who exercised at the gym or at home.
One needs UVB for vitamin D production and that is filtered out by windows and glass.
Best get direct sunlight.
And the heck with skin cancer issues these says.
That’s the least of my worries.
Yeah, or San Franfecal.
San Francisco: Where the sh1t hits the Fran.
During an unusually severe bout of depression, I didn’t leave the house for almost a month.
It’s not good to stay cooped up like that. It took another month or so just to feel physically normal.
Yeah, my reply was meant to indicate if we were self-isolating for whatever reason, it’s good to know the HVAC and filtering system in our house would provide a reasonable amount of fresh air. In no way did I mean to imply that this would help filter out COVID-19 or any other viruses, although a MERC-16 filter can help in that regard (which can cause an additional strain on the HVAC). We’re using a MERC-13 filter instead of the standard MERC-10 that comes with the HVAC we have.
“The biggest issue is that entering hibernation mode means you dont get any exposure to natural light.”
This is reality for much of the northern hemisphere for several months a year, whether we go outside or not.
The glass in the window blocks the UV portion of sunlight from getting through, so you’re not really getting the full benefits. Might be good to fight depression, but it’s not going to help you get your vitamins.
Drinking our own urine, mumbling to our imaginary friends and howling at the moon.
That may be a regular Saturday night for some folks, though.
“...So grab a lawn chair, a cold drink, and a good book....”
I like to sit outside in a chair, drink beer and shoot my BB gun at kids in the lawn and passing cars. Does wonders for my mood.
But tell me now you in Central Texas, did Cheyenne Bowdie, or the Rifleman, etc. need HVAC?:)
I read that also. Then they set the clock ahead so that it is dark at 4pm in Dec. Oh well, we do have the Big Pond here, etc.
Vit D is good stuff.
I’ve been taking 5000 IU per day for years. Same amount of time I haven’t been sick. Coincidence? Maybe, but it’s cheap and it works.
And then there were men like Richard Wurmbrand, who would not bow to Hilter and the Commies , and spent 14 years in prison, 3 of which were in solitary without sunlight. And after being ransomed did ministry from the US for decades, and died at 93(!).
Yep, there is sunlight probably for a few hours a day, but unless it’s the weekend, most of us are stuck at work and miss it.
Only this week after the Daylight Savings Time switch do we actually see the sunlight after 5PM again.
And?
I can’t help that I have had head trauma. It causes more problems that just depression. Sudden outbursts of anger and bouts of delusional thinking round out the smorgasbord of mental health issues. I’m 52 and will probably be full into dementia by the time I’m able to retire.
So forgive me for not being a hero.
Must be great to be perfect.
God forbid you ever have a head injury that you live with the rest of your life.

I am sorry but I had no idea how severe your condition was (you only mention an unusually severe bout of depression, not head trauma and ongoing issues) and my reference to Richard Wurmbrand was not meant to belittle such a condition, but was addressing the seclusion aspect, and that despite this the man lived to a ripe old age, by the grace of God.
And I certainly did not speak as one who presumed perfection, which I am far far far from. But may all find grace and peace thru Jesus the Lord.
That's great advice. Thanks for posting.
going outside?
That’s where you get that sun cancer, bee stings, dust up your nose, foxtail burrs in your socks, dog bites, snake bite, moose bite, etc.
Can’t have a big ol’ branch fall out of a tree and onto your head if you stay in doors.
Besides, humans are meant to be indoors. That’s why we’re born indoors.
You don’t see pregnant women running outside to drop their newborn in the dirt, do you?
why you want us out in the dirt?
You work for those laundry detergent outfits?
No problem.
