So think about the potential changes to life / education / industry due to the response in the US from CV.
Colleges just changed to allow online completion (south carolina) for the remainder of the school year.
Fedgov - got the insurance companies to waive costs for testing, and to give breaks to companies to allow workers to stay home.
Fedgov - covering test costs - diagnostics
Fedgov - payroll tax cut (holiday) impacts both workers and employers (helps for unpaid sick leave).
And so.......
these are the type of things that people should look at and say, wow, could that not be the way all the time ???
Thanks freepers !
Maybe they think people will get too comfortable and sloppy working from home.
Then train or fire them. You produce the results or you don’t. Being too comfortable is not an indicator of bad work.
If you have along process, then the manager can have intermediate reviews in person or via document dump
Well it shouldnt take that long for it to show and then you make them come in again.
You’re right
thanx been there both as an employee and a manager
Ya know I was never a manager but I did supervise a lot of folks in presentation creation centers in investment banks for a few years.
We sent some work to India at one point as a trial when we were backed up and they were a disaster.
But still, IT DID show that you CAN work somewhere else and do these jobs. They just happened to suck.
I know for a fact that for all presentation/word processor jobs in these departments that you still have to go in.
For one thing, the investment banker can’t hover over your shoulder and yell and complain if you work from home creating his presentation :)
What you say is both true and not true. While we had a financial crisis, all the factories, warehouses, and offices of the real economy were still intact, and the workers were still there to produce goods and services with them. Money is a useful medium of exchange, but should not be confused with actual wealth.
If you use it, there should be a comma after.
The word in not needed, though.
That is a perfect explanation.
It seems very presumptive of a supposed ongoing discussion in the zeitgeist up to now doesn't it?
So I think so?
I’m baffled by the obsession with city living too. Obviously cities made sense when communications and transportation prevented most people from living far away for population centers. These days, they’re mainly a relic from a bygone era :-) .
Why not keep the payroll tax in place, but simply let us decide whether or not we want the govt to invest this money?
If a person decides where he invests, that person forgoes claims (proportional to time in system) on govt retirement help.
If you have three reports due this week and come in next monday with them complete, why care where the reports are done?

If you have three reports due this week and you bring them in next Monday, they are late.
here is a story when we got word processing
One superintendent asked his staff when would they complete their required 10 reports each week, if they could go home when they were done. They said Thursday noon. One said Thur end of day.
Why didn’t he let them?. The union wouldn’t agree to employees being paid for the actual work. Had to pay them by the hour.
yes I meant due Mon morning
I gave today...did 50% of the posters here today give?
Hard to do many jobs at home........I wonder why you don’t see that.....
I do see that, but there’s also many jobs where people go into work and sit in front of their computers all day long except for coffee, lunch, and bathroom breaks.
LOL very good.
Then the last five years I worked only from home and even gave up my office when the facility manager needed the space. I worked for various managers around the country and never saw them face-to-face. A couple of them were bungeecord managers that swooped in and were gone in a week or two. I even reported to a Vice President for a time when he wanted to have more direct reports so he would be less vulnerable to getting the axe himself.
So, yes, there are jobs that can be done from home, and have been already.
