PITTSBURGH A Family Dollar store in Pittsburghs Sheraden neighborhood says so many people are stealing from them, it may put them out of business.
Neighbors said they rely on the store for their essentials, which is within walking distance of many homes and schools.
The manager of the store said a regional team is looking into inventory and what could be done, if anything, to help the business stay afloat.
A neighboring business said extra cameras and a policy of no backpacks and no more than two kids in the store at a time have helped cracked down on the petty theft.
All the while residents cry and cripe to local politicians about "food deserts" and not having any place to shop that is convenient to their home.
And yet when they do have one it gets pummeled by thieves.
If the profit margin on an item is 10% and somebody steals one, the store needs to sell 9 more just to break even. Nobody gets this.
I had friends who lived in this part of town back in the 80's. Wasn't a bad place then. It quickly ghettofied and by the turn of the millennium was not a place you wanted to be after dark.
Democrat: mayor, chief of police and city council members?
A little old fashioned “cracking down” might be in order. No way that’ll happen...
Damn those republican voters, who else would steal from a dollar store? s/
If they lock up everything then they’d be called racist. So now that they’re forced out of business they’d still be called racist for going out of business due to theft.
Both Dollar Generals here (or would the plural be Dollars General?) closed because of theft.
What? you mean you don’t want the folks to just waltz right in and take what is “rightfully” theirs? After all, they get everything else free and are told to blame those eeeevvvvviiiiillll capitalist store owners for their misery.
Why, bernie would just take all the store owners’ assets and redistribute them to the “poooooor”. No word from bernie what he would do after all the store owners go out of business and there are no more left from whom to seize assets.
I witness retail theft all the time. It is always the same demographic: the people who are taught from birth that they are owed something and must vote Democrat to alleviate these ills and acquire more free things, i.e. their due.
The first and maybe only Walmart to close was in Tuskegee, Alabama. I wonder why?
Those cashiers are put into the position of acting as Security Officers. Not good, but it’s either that or hire an actual Security Guard. I have no idea how expensive that would be.
If it’s a franchise business, as with Dollar Stores, is the cost of security partially paid for via Home Office, or will all the money necessarily come from that particular store? If answer is the later, that’s probably unaffordable.
An analysis wasted on the liberals who whine about food deserts. It doesn't virtue signal to point out that colorful criminals can put a store out of business. Vlad Tepesch had a very low petty theft problem because he simply impaled thieves - a practice that unfortunately has gone out of style.
Stores in downtown DC ghetto districts have everything that is worth more than $2 behind locked glass display shelves. If you need it you ask a sales clerk, they take it out and you pay for it at the front counter and it is handed to you.
Maybe the new Amazon method will be the new trend. Walk out of the Amazon store with an item and it charges your account. You don’t get in the store without the app.
Let dem touch dose tings!
They recently built a Dollar General a mile from where I live. It took them about a month to build and open. I hope the new Publix they are planning on building here goes up just as FAST!
Airlock and strip search all exiting customers and browsers. Thatll fix it.
And, yes, it would be "racist" to ask for the demographics of this neighborhood.
I think the word "racism" should be considered Hate Speech. If you accuse me of racism, you should be arrested.
Steelers fans.
So are ‘teens’ doing the theft?
Asking for a friend...
