My wife, sister in law and myself went on a ski trip to Salt Lake City. My sister in law had a bad cough. A few days later she developed a fever of 102f. My wife developed similar symptoms including a fever of 102f. I did not get sick even after being in a car for hours with two sick coughing women. We had all had our flu shots. Fever makes it less likely to be a cold. Odds are it was flu that was not picked up by vaccine but who knows?

My 20 year old granddaughter couldn’t get her whooping cough vaccine after the first one; she had a small seizure after having it, and my younger daughter didn’t get the one before kindergarten, because the doctor felt they were problematic. They’ve never caught whooping cough, thank the Lord!
