Harrison Ford’s ‘Call of the Wild’ to Lose $50 Million at Box Office
Variety ^ | March 1, 2020 | Rebecca Rubin

Harrison Ford’s canine adventure “The Call of the Wild” is shaping up to be the latest box office dud for the Disney-owned 20th Century.

The film, based on Jack London’s best-selling novel, has made $45 million in the U.S. and $79 million globally after two weeks in theaters. That wouldn’t be a bad result, had “The Call of the Wild” cost a moderate amount to make and market. However, it carries a price tag above $125 million, meaning the film needs to make between $250 million and $275 million to break even, according to sources close to the production and rival studio executives. Given the unlikeliness that it’ll reach those ticket sales, “The Call of the Wild” is expected to lose around $50 million. TSG co-financed the film, which will help mitigate damages for Disney.

After Disney broke box office records last year with billion-dollar blockbusters like “Avengers: Endgame,” “The Lion King” and “Captain Marvel,” the studio is well positioned to withstand a hit or two. Since formally acquiring 20th Century Fox last year, Disney has jettisoned off a string of box office misfires. Most notably, the company blamed much of its $170 million quarterly write-down in August on “X-Men” spin-off “Dark Phoenix,” a film that cost $200 million and tapped out with $250 million globally. “Underwater” with Kristen Stewart, buddy comedy “Stuber” and the animated “Spies in Disguise” were also theatrical disappointments.

“The Call of the Wild” received mixed reviews from critics, though audiences seemed to like it more and gave it an “A-” CinemaScore. The film debuted to $24.8 million last weekend, ahead of expectations. Box office analysts believe it benefitted as Ford’s first major on-screen film role in years. “The Call of the Wild” declined 46% in its sophomore outing and brought in $13.3 million in North America, an average result for a family film. Internationally, “The Call of the Wild” has made $33 million from 50 foreign markets, representing 91% of its overseas footprint. However, Coronavirus has closed theaters in China, Italy and Korea, which could hinder ticket sales abroad.

“The Call of the Wild” was written by Michael Green (“Logan,” “Blade Runner 2049”) and directed by Chris Sanders. It follows a man (Ford) who crosses paths with a dog named Buck, who was captured from his California home and sold to freight haulers.

White Fang was awesome. Kids won’t watch something from the POV of a dog who can only think and can’t talk, and with no special effects. Sounds like they didn’t follow London’s story, anyway.

Exactly, DJ.

Liberal “performers” combined with inane productions = box office failure. Not really hard to figure out that equation.

Speaking of Harrison Ford. Approaching 80 years old Indiana Jones 5 starts filming soon; release scheduled for next year.

Another one I won’t be seeing.

Han Solo made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs with his left blinker on the whole way.

I actually have no real use for pets, but I have great admiration for actual working dogs.

I’ve read about it before. Think its a point of contention because there’s some voodoo involved.

Harrison’s career was over, he should stick to trying to land planes on the proper runways until the soon take his license back.

Another cinematic CGI triumph.

Tune in next week for a Mary Poppins remake where a decrepit Dick Van Dyke dances with CGI penguins.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Geritol ?

And where’s our favorite “Woke” actor Sabrina LeBouef as Mutt Jones ? Hasn’t he been in hiding since we stole his flag ? In the nervous hospital in a corner rocking himself back and forth, “We will not be moved. Orangemanbad. We will not be moved...”

You know, as each of these “actors” come out and expose themselves as Leftist assholes, one part of me gets sad that someone I’d enjoyed watching - “Raiders of the Lost Ark” “Patriot Gamnes”, etc., were GREAT movies - IS in fact such an asshole...

But on the other hand, it’s good to know who the enemy is. Put a face on them. Mark them. Remember them. And remove them from your life.

Indeed, remember them - because they’re intentionally and freely siding with people that want you, your families, your culture, your traditions, and your heritage DEAD.

As in Erased. As in Murdered. As in Wiped off the face of Earth. They’re no better than the Nazis.

It’s not hyperbole; it’s fact. The side they choose to support has said as much.

So in the future, whatever happens to these people, remember this simple fact: they freely chose to side with psychotic animals that hate you and wish you harm.

Make your choices - and choose your actions - accordingly.

This is war for our survival - as Americans, as a People, and as Nation. And they are NOT on the same side as we are.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw Buck in the trailer and he was CGI.
What were they thinking? I could just accept that the wolves and caribou were CGI - but Buck?!

I know we don’t get original material from Hwood anymore but how incompetent do you have to be to make the hero fake?

CGI looks pretty good but they are FAR from getting the smooth movements of real animals.

I hate his GUTS now, but I already paid for the digital movies Goodfellas, The Godfather II, Raging Bull and Casino.

It’s not contributing to anyone’s pockets anymore watching them.

but NO, I did not see the irishman.

I am no conservative saint.

I use amazon prime for more than I can say here.

I use google to search.

But for some reason, watching any new movie with deniro in it..I just can’t do.

I need to get off of amazon and google.

I know... duckduckgo...but when push comes to shove the most relevant shopping or non political topics show on the first page of google.

it sucks

These people have proven themselves as NOT American, supporting people who hate everything about us.

Whatever they did in the past, cinema-wise, is THEN.

What they do NOW is all that matters.

And they have chosen to side with people who HATE us.

Treat them accordingly.

I wouldn’t go see a Harrison Ford movie if they paid me too. Wonder how the son of a bitch likes that?

I'm sure he cries himself to sleep in his Bel Air mansion over it. Except when he's crying himself to sleep at his ranch in Jackson Hole.
