OAK PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Ottis Dugar, 86, and his 67-year-old wife Demitri still can't believe they were mistaken for armed thieves.
Ottis is a Korean War veteran with glaucoma and Demitri is diabetic. They said the incident happened after they left their Oak Park Bank. Demtiri was driving Ottis to a Denny's when they were surrounded by Oak Park and River Forest police, all with guns drawn.
"Yelling, 'Get out of the car! Put your hands up!' And when I'm having a bad knee, I cannot get out," Demitri said. "They asked me, 'Who's in the car?' I said my husband. 'What's his name?' I said it's Ottis. 'Does he have a gun in the car?' I said no, we don't have any guns. 'Well if he's got a gun in the car we're going to shoot him!'"
"Yes, sir," Ottis said. "Bonnie and Clyde."
"He can't see to drive! And I can't even walk fast, less only run. But we're bank robbers," Demitri marveled.

Indeed it is.

Notable and not-so-notable graduates included Ernest Hemingway and comedienne/actress Kathy Griffin of Trump's severed head fame.
A senior in this high school, I went on a double date with my future husband and his friend. The friend drove us to pick up his date in the ritzy section of River Forest.
His date was none other than Tony Accardo's daughter.
We were given a tour of Accardo's home by one of his functionaries while we waited for the upstairs-princess to finish putting her makeup on.
The highlight of the tour was Tony's basement, completely finished with comfy seating areas, an organ, pool table, a well-stocked bar with photos of Tony and his various Mafioso compadres decorating the bar wall....plus a two-lane bowling alley right there in the basement.
Those were the days, my friend.....

BTW, a photo of Tony Accardo's River Forest home is on the internet.

Remind me to tell you the story of my relationship with Robert Bellavia sometime.
Scary dude.

Scary dude.”
Who was Robert Bellavia? What’s the story? Curious.
In the Retail Industry the elderly shoplift almost equal to teenagers....and they’re slick about it too!
It sure seems it.

Bellavia was a lower level member of the Chicago mob. When I came home from the Corps I and 2 of my high school buddies rented a house from him. We lived there for 3 years never knowing who he was.
That is until his face was all over local news when he was arrested for loan sharking, extortion, and murder.

Like the movie, they go around in pairs. Their trust is waning just like the leftist media.
I have a friend who grew up in Oak Park next to some mobster or other. (I have forgotten who) Their baseball went over the fence, and they knocked on the door to get it back. The guy gave them a fistful of money and said “go buy a dozen and leave me alone”.
One night, Sam was cooking sausage, peppers and beans in the basement of his brick bungalow-type home. Someone knocked on the steel door leading to the basement. It was an acquaintance of Sam's and he let him in.
Unfortunately for Sam, a few minuted later he was tasting bullets, not beans.
He was offed by a hitman on a mission....and the identity of the assassin was never discovered.
Sam, who was short and butt-ugly, dated Marilyn Monroe and Phyllis McGuire (of the singing McGuire Sisters)....and was a friend of Frank Sinatra.
Quite a few of the Chicago mob of this era, including Tony Accardo, lived in the beautiful outlying suburbs of the city. However, they did their dirty work in the city, quietly raising their families in the various 'burbs....never dirtying their own nests.
I was a Republican precinct committeewoman in Oak Park, and one of the mobsters and his family lived a few doors from me. Working my precinct on foot before elections, I'd knock on his door, hand him the GOP information and brochures, chewed the fat with him...he'd thank me....but, of course, come election day, these evil-doers and their families always registered and voted Democrat.

I would have dismissed the officers responsible from the force.
This isnt the way I want my grandparents treated.
“This isnt the way I want my grandparents treated.”
And that is how it should be viewed.
