OAK PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Ottis Dugar, 86, and his 67-year-old wife Demitri still can't believe they were mistaken for armed thieves.
Ottis is a Korean War veteran with glaucoma and Demitri is diabetic. They said the incident happened after they left their Oak Park Bank. Demtiri was driving Ottis to a Denny's when they were surrounded by Oak Park and River Forest police, all with guns drawn.
"Yelling, 'Get out of the car! Put your hands up!' And when I'm having a bad knee, I cannot get out," Demitri said. "They asked me, 'Who's in the car?' I said my husband. 'What's his name?' I said it's Ottis. 'Does he have a gun in the car?' I said no, we don't have any guns. 'Well if he's got a gun in the car we're going to shoot him!'"
"Yes, sir," Ottis said. "Bonnie and Clyde."
"He can't see to drive! And I can't even walk fast, less only run. But we're bank robbers," Demitri marveled.

You would think that the officers would have used their brains and figured out they had the wrong people in about 60 seconds.
Ottis likes the young stuff...
Now this is cops acting stupidly.
Oak Park....yea it figures.

I don’t know. Are cops getting dumber and dumber?
Whats George Burns doing hanging out with likes of Hyman Roth and Ed Norton?
I grew up in Oak Park and then my family moved to River Forest, that’s where all the gangsters lived. I grew up about 5 blocks from Tony (Joe Batters) Accardo.
Oak Park has become this liberal bastion for the far left for the past 40 years or so. They have just ruined the city. Taxes are 4 times what I pay for the same size property a 10 miles away in a great neighborhood. They have all these pensions they’re on the hook for, so they just keep raising everyone’s taxes.
River Forest has a lot of very big and beautiful homes. Tony Accardo was one of Al Capone’s bodyguards and ran the Chicago Outfit for 40 years. Others may have been in place as the head of The Outfit, but it was always Accardo calling the shots.
Tony Accardos great grandchildren are Joey Bosa (D-Lineman LA Chargers), his younger brother Nick Bosa (D-Lineman 49ers) and Jake Kumerow (WR - Green Bay Packers)
I don’t know,they look suspicious to me.
Going In Style.
I’m glad the couple can sort of laugh about it now, but that must have been very scary.
I’ve never been arrested like that, (mistaken for a robber).
So is THAT how some police stops can go?
“If he has a gun in the car, we are going to shoot him!”
Was that a scare tactic, just to make her hand over any guns?
It’ll be on “Cops Live” Friday night! :>)
What were the officers Freeper names?
I am fairly certain that they must post regularly on this forum.
“Oak Park....yea it figures.”
Not too good on catching bank robbers, but they will crack your skull if you put the wrong stuff in the recycling bin.
Same thing happened to my younger brother and I back in the early 1970s when we were in our 20s. Just driving along a rural road and got pulled over by cops who pointed their revolvers at us and ordered us out of the car and to put our hands up. As we complied the cops suddenly got a call on their radio that the real suspects had been caught and they jumped into their vehicle without a word and left us a bit shook up.
Probably had some ‘quota’ to meet regarding the detaining of people...kind of like TSA searching grannies and nuns.
Wow. Ottis is really robbin’ the cradle there.
Happened to me once when I was delivering pizzas. 4 cops with gun drawn and me scared witless with a pile of pizzas in the back seat.
One sniff in the car and the knew they had the wrong guy.

It is a bit unnerving when something like that happens.
