A new proposal on the docket in Boston on Wednesday could determine how much residents pay for parking tickets.
The Boston City Council was to meet at noon Wednesday to discuss new legislation which will include a hearing order for potential income-adjusted fines on parking violations.
Recently elected city councilor at-large Julia Mejia filed the hearing order on Monday and has been vocal about the idea on Twitter.
"I am introducing legislation on income-adjusting parking tickets so low-income families dont have to decide between paying a parking ticket or putting food on their table," she wrote.

Why not make the price of everything be based upon income. That way, no matter what you earn, everyone will have the same purchasing power? /s
I would agree to this, if they determined how much money people could get out of the government based on how much money they paid into it.

One of those ‘natural conservatives’ I keep hearing about.
If they have the technology to do this, they have the technology to base it on the number of offenses instead.
Free health care ... free education ... guaranteed basic income ...free cell phones and internet ... why not free parking?
social justice income based parking fines, it works for the justice system why not across the board
Here comes Santa Clause;
repeat.
They should also base them on race. Oh, and dont forget LGBTQ +. And political party too. And..............
So Julia is a illegal? Nice. ...
No Soup For Her!

Yep, why not have it based on a multiplier. Heck, even let it go exponential.
Isn’t parking where I want to a RIGHT in, like, the Constitution or something?
Right next to where it says I can, like, murder my child two minutes after it’s born?
*SNORT*
Let me guess: below a certain income, you pay nothing!
So criminals, with no declared income, would be able to park free?
“If they have the technology to do this, they have the technology to base it on the number of offenses instead.”
THAT is a terrific idea!
Unconstitutional. A fine is a fine. We are all equal under the law. You can’t charge a person more because they have more money.
It also incentivizes cops to target vehicles that will bring more money to the city. In fact, it will incentivize them to aggressively ticket even when there is no ticketable offense. This happened in Seattle when they were being pressured to write more tickets. A guy got a ticket for leaving his lights on when he parked. He fought it and won, btw. It’s not illegal to leave your headlights on when you park.
So what, now if you get a parking ticket you have to provide an income statement, an assets statement, both ?
