Germany is on the brink of recession as its auto industry hits a 22 year low. Tesla - and the EV movement - has disrupted the backbone of Germany's economy.
The economy is being dragged down by a seismic slump in car manufacturing. The Tesla effect and the shift to electric vehicles is leaving Germany in dire straits.
The latest economic figures out of Germany arent pretty: zero growth for the fourth quarter.
Reuters compared the challenge facing Germany with 1970s Detroit, where a rapid decline in the auto industry decimated the entire city.
It could well be that we have passed the peak of automotive production.
When Tesla launched the Model 3 in Europe last year, it instantly outsold rival sedans at BMW and Mercedes. It was the third best-selling car, period, in December.

? Is the internet seeing or hearing?
The electric car is not practical or efficient.
So the Germans failed to notice a shift in the market and Tesla is to blame? Sounds to me like the German auto industry is to blame.
I hope everybody but me buys an electric car.
Woohoo! Maybe I can finally get a decent deal on a new BMW 5 series!
The indoctrination is strong. The age of those indoctrinated extends up to at least 40 in this country. Not sure how it is in Germany. My son, who is 35 thinks Tesla cars are the best. The shortcomings don’t matter, they are cool, and signal virtue with a capital V.
We can shrug off the ill informed all we want, but they have significant buying power and will shape the economy and the world. Enjoy President Trump’s second term, it may be the last reprieve before the indoctrinated get their way.
Blaming Tesla is like taxis blaming Uber, like payphones blaming cell phones.
Adapt or die.
Self-inflicted wound.
They can bounce back any time they choose to. I’m not sure they will make that choice.
Batteries manufactured from toxic materials which are in shorter supply than oil AND one hell of a lot harder to dispose of, are NOT at all "sustainable energy"
The success of "clean energy" propaganda on the masses would make Goebells tingle with envy.
I hope everybody but me buys an electric car.
When Nascar goes to coal by wire, will they put high-tech titanium cards against the wheels to make some noise?
Or use an audio system as some cars use today, and they have an ICE.
I have no doubt you are correct on that. But, I intend to enjoy Trump's term to the fullest. It will be a 4 year political orgasm for me.
Tesla sold 367 cars last month in Germany of a total of 246,000 cars sold.
Seems more like a footnote than a game changer.
I think Nas will be out of business.
The fan base (guys like me) is dying off.
Folks under 40 are not very interested.
The federal government had a big surplus in their budget.
Maybe theyll let Tesla finish that new gigafactory now.
Where would you buy your gas?
I do not believe it. VW, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Audi all built in Germany. An electric vehicle will not last in Germany.
“AND one hell of a lot harder to dispose of, “
Recycled ...
As I recall Tesla is trying to build a plant there but its been dragging through courts over trees being cleared.
