Fans of the beloved old CBS show Walker, Texas Ranger will be sorely disappointed to hear it will be getting the CW treatment in its reboot. In addition to Walker getting a new female partner, media reported on Wednesday that he will have a gay, conservative younger brother.
The new series will be titled simply Walker and star Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) who will also executive produce. The original, which starred Chuck Norris as Texas Ranger Cordell Walker and aired eight seasons from 1993-2001, was a wholesome, moral show about good vs. evil and roundhouse kicks. With the show, movie actor and world champion martial artist Norris gained a cult following that went beyond the series and spurred comedic and fantastical Chuck Norris facts, like Chuck Norris can strangle you with a cordless phone or Death once had a near-Chuck-Norris experience.
According to Variety, Keegan Allen was brought on to play Walker's brother Liam in the revival:
Described as smart, slightly smug, but with a strong moral compass, Liam is Walkers younger gay and conservative brother who has been recently promoted to assistant DA. Liam and Walker are close, but Liam gives his brother no shortage of tough love. Liam has always stayed close to home, often sacrificing his personal life in favor of his family duties. In Walkers absence, he stepped up to take Walkers kids under his wing. Liams close relationship with Walkers son and daughter makes Walker slightly jealous.
Knowing the CW, now that Walker is back, Liam will have plenty of opportunity to explore his gay personal life for audiences to watch. It will also be very interesting to see how the CW interprets the conservative side of his character or if they even know what a conservative is! Something tells me the gay representation is more important to them than getting the far less frequent conservative representation right.
In the description of Walker it says he will "find unexpected common ground with his new partner." No doubt there will be lots of misogyny for one of the first women in Texas Rangers history to fight and lessons for Walker along the way. No word yet on if there will be a trans or non-binary character, but you can be sure something like will be a nice little Easter egg in there, too.
Woke Walker, Texas Ranger: coming soon to a TV near you.
There's an old Nick Nolte flick called Extreme Prejudice. Nolte and Rip Torn play Texas Rangers. Torn's character says I have no problem with a woman Ranger, as long as she's 6'2", 220 lbs, and mean as a snake.
Don’t give them any ideas.......................
Hollywood created a conservative character to make fun of conservatives. He was called Archie Bunker. He was the only one with a job. He owned the house. The other characters where liberals. So, who ended up being the star? Who did everyone depend on? I think Archie backfired on Hollywood. It’s likely this one will too. Either that or he will seem contrived and unreal. Will he prance around demanding some Christian baker make his cake or dress up as a woman? If so, conservatives, half the audience, will tune out.
The first TV program I saw at our house was Lassie.
Yes, I'm very, very old.
Walker, Texas Ranger — Now 20% more gay!
That is true. According to Norman Lear, creator of the show, Mike and Gloria were supposed to be the 'stars', and Archie's character was supposed to be their 'foil'. It annoyed him and the writer's to no end, the whole time the show was on that they could not get audiences to like Mike and Gloria, or to see their viewpoints as anything but laughable. They eventually had to write them out...................
I still remember watching Carson back in the 70's during All In the Family's heyday when two of the guests were Walter Matthau and Meathead. Meathead was going on about how All In the Family was popular because it dealt with serious social issues and exposed bigotry. Matthau interrupted him and said "That's not why your show is so popular. Your show is popular because everybody agrees with Archie Bunker."
Meathead lost it and went into vociferous denial that such a thing could be true.

Well before me. Lives on YouTube and XM 148.
It’s not possible for a gay man to have a strong moral compass, even with the network moving mountains to make him seem normal and lovable.
Chuck Norris bit my sister.
I have a cousin that is in the same situation as your brother. He gets hate and ostracism from the gay community for being an outspoken conservative and Trump supporter. Hes a great guy, and who he is attracted to will never change my opinion of him as a hard-working, intelligent, honest, and trustworthy person.
I Liked Norris in Lone Wolf McQuade.
I find this concept very low in possibility. How many men in the US are gay? About 3.9%. How many people live in Texas? about 12.5% of the US. How many gay men are in law enforcement? I can’t find a statistic on that. How many gay people are black belts in martial arts? Seems like it would be low. So put it all together and we have a very unlikely scenario a gay, texan, law officer that kicks criminal ass. Why don’t they remake the Streets of San Francisco?
When I hear “Walker, Texas Ranger Rebooted” I think “he went back to the western shop and bought himself some new boots”.
Of course the was Jack Benny and Fred Allen. They were great too.
Sorry (not sorry) but you can’t be a phag and “have a strong moral compass”. The two conditions are antithetical to one another.
I always thot Trivette was kinda gay looking in that white hat that is too big for his head.
I stopped watching all the CW shows because of all the nasty Sodomites slurping on each other. I can tolerate lesbianism, unless they hype it up. But no way I am watching queer men slurp on each other knowing where their tongues have been. Ewwww! Gross!
