Honeymooning couple quarantined on ‘coronavirus cruise’ beg Trump for help

Milena Basso and her husband Gaetano Cerullo are trapped on the quarantined Diamond Princess off the coast of Japan, with at least 64 cases of the killer virus confirmed on board.

The couple said the situation on the ship is “desperate” with food and water running out and the disease spreading through the 2,000 trapped passengers.

New cases are being confirmed every day, and the American newlyweds say they still have two weeks to wait before they can leave.

Cerullo told Fox News: “We are kind of worried because we've still got two weeks on here assuming that works out in our favor and we still have to get onto American soil.

“And, if Donald Trump could help us in any way...”

“Sounds to me like a Trump hater suffering TDS trying to generate bad PR for POTUS.”

Yea, I figure that too. Probably scoring points with the ‘woke’ generation.

I might have confused them with the other American honeymooners...

I feel bad for these folks but they are under quarantine, President Trump is NOT going to bring these people to the US and they end up getting sick with coronavirus, I know it sucks for them but seriously, a 30 day cruise. I was on a cruise once to Mexico for 7 days, after 5 days I was pretty much over the buffets

“But Norovirus can infect not just cruise ships but any place with a lot of people confined in close spaces: schools and child care centers, long term care facilities, casinos, catered events and offices.”

Thanks, by the standards of some here, flying on Southwest is a death-defying feat. Let’s get real - as I noted just above, the cruise lines actually DID step-up and take steps to clean up their act (not necessarily because they love healthy people, but more they love healthy Annual Reports).

As others note, if you step out of your front door, you put yourself at elevated risk. I try to fight that mindset here, as it won’t apply to the United States for another 2 months (based on my projections).

But now, with Coronavirus, it could easily mean the end of the cruise ship business, at least as we know it.

Wait until the passengers (or their next of kin) sue the cruise line. That will sink (pardon the pun) their business quickly, particularly if there is any proof that they ignored safety or health warnings.

As for the newlyweds, stay in bed, crack open a window, order in for room service, wash the food thoroughly if necessary (i.e. fruits and veggies, etc.) and say NO to any sushi. Use the restroom sparingly but wash up after each use. Pray.

Do these people think it just doesn’t matter that they may already be carriers?

What hospital can hold 2000 passengers.

For that matter, what hotel can?

Should they put up a make-shift hospital for them?

Honestly I don’t see a good way out of this other than what they are doing.

An article yesterday said they are taking the sick off the ship.

I know this sucks, but sometimes life does.

I wish these folks well. I wish I knew a great solution to the problem.

Hunker down. Enroll in Netflix. Kick back. Relax. Do what honeymooners do.

“President Trump is NOT going to bring these people to the US and they end up getting sick with coronavirus”

One of my Asian sources tells me that the US is working out a deal with Japan where we skedaddle the Americans off of that doomed ship and back to the US. So they may get back here, and I am sure (seriously) that they will be secured in this country until we can declare them uninfected.

Youth is wasted on the young.

Yes, and they only had 11 years to live remaining anyway due to climate change. At worst, they beat the rush.

“as food, water and medicine grow short”

right. because it’s impossible to safely supply a cruise ship containing 3,000 passengers and crew members with fresh water and food, and the only alternative is to let all 3,000 dehydrate and starve to death over the next month ... that sure would be a lot of wrongful death lawsuits against Princess Cruises ...

and since the only way to get off that ship right now is to get infected with coronavirus, my expectation is that as the desperate passengers and crew run out of water, they’ll hold “infection” parties to try and deliberately get infected with the virus, because that would be preferable to death by dehydration ...

“Wait until the passengers (or their next of kin) sue the cruise line. That will sink (pardon the pun) their business quickly, particularly if there is any proof that they ignored safety or health warnings.”

That’s the thing - the cruise lines are just now starting to go beyond the ‘official’ warnings/advisories...but it’s too late, as the ship off of Japan shows. They are likely to be covered legally...but that’s only 20% of the game. The other 80% is future bookings, and THEY ARE HOSED in that area.

What’s the point of bringing in the gay lifestyle to something this serious?

(don’t laugh, they do just that)

“I should be getting emails of really cheap cruise deals any day now.”

no doubt about it ... i hear that they’re coming up with some new theme cruises, like “Death Cruise”: you take out large amounts of life insurance before boarding and they guarantee that at least one passenger has been infected with coronavirus ... if this is successful, i’ve also heard they’re even thinking of doing a reality show about it ...

“It probably is different for them”

true enough, but maybe a couple of couples could get together and do wife swapping to rekindle the ol’ fires ... they’d just need to take each other’s temperature for a few days before getting going ...

they still have two weeks to wait before they can leave.

The two weeks keep re-setting as each new case crops up. More like two weeks after the last victim dies.

After having served on a heavy cruiser for two years, I look at those cruise ships with 10+ decks above the main deck and think I would never set sail on a ship that top heavy.

The cruise ships have a few things in their favor.

1.-They are not registered in this country.
2.- A lot of the quarantine problems did not happen in our litigious country.

The incident at Bayonne New Jersey involving the cruise ship 'Anthem of the Seas' did not greatly inconvenience the passengers and was business as usual the next day. - Tom
