As a single, senior old lady who has smoked for decades, I finally came up with this idea;)
Have been smoking the most expensive brand, menthol, elegantly slim which has been costing me more than my food budget!!!
So, I decided to buy a pack of cheap, chunky cigarettes for half the price of my usual purchase.
I HATE THEM AND I'LL NOT BE BUYING OR SMOKING ANY MORE11111
Yup! Seen it plenty of times.
Good for you Sodpoodle. Quitting is easier than we ex smokers were led to believe. I hope all smokers finally quit for their health, and their relationships if nothing else. Me, was the cost of the darned things.
My story for quitting is just quit. I did it cold turkey, and haven’t regretted it one moment. I actually enjoyed smoking right to the day I quit, but as I said the cost of it helped me to quit. That was April 9, 2009 I quit smoking.
Good luck. 8>)
I've quit probably 2-300 times in my life.
Sometimes for years, months, weeks, days, hours, and even minutes.
Quitting nicotine is tougher than laying off the booze. I've been off the smokes since May 1, 2011 but it ain't over until I kick.
The devil is always there, Good Luck, be tough.
Its nicotine thats the evil beast that must be defeated
Well,
in the end,
after sacrificing all of the things you enjoy,
you will still die.
Just stop.
The craving only lasts a few seconds. And the longer you go the further apart they come.
Throw out all of your ashtrays, lighters, etc. make it very expensive to start again
Good luck
Cigar or pipe for me — heart and lungs in pretty good shape after recent stress test, ultrasound, etc.
Naturally, I never inhale, just puff. Plenty of enjoyment.
Tobacco has never been a problem for me. Keeping my weight down has. I’ve lost a little over 40# over the last nine months, and my doc and I have an agreement that I will shoot for another 15 or so to help with my blood pressure/blood sugar.
Considering I’ve had to cut out about half or more of the foods I like, my daily cigar actually helps me with my diet.
It’s a daily struggle, and as a student of the art of war, I can tell you that it’s a rare general who has the numerical strength to attack along an entire front. Normally, you have to pick the place where you have the best chance for a breakthrough, and try to achieve a local superiority while just holding along the rest of the front.
I find this a good metaphor for most of life’s challenges. Identify your most pressing problem(s) and attack them hard. But be willing to let some other things slide, at least for a while.
Otherwise, you’ll drive yourself crazy and, more than likely, fail in your main objective(s) as well.
I was doing 2 packs of Bel-Airs back in the 70’s the I bailed. Will see if it helped, if not will wish I kept up
Guaranteed cigarette quitting method.
Each time you take a drag on a cigarette,
turn it around and put the other end in your
mouth.
I agree... smoking cigarettes is crazy.....
That’s why I smoke all-natural, gluten-free, sugar-free, free-range, no antibiotic cigars.....
One shouldn’t smoke. But if you intend to keep smoking no matter what, quit the pack cigarettes. Get a rolling machine and buy the shells, which are empty cigarettes that go into the machine. The bags of ‘pipe tobacco’ cost about 20 bucks. The shells are about 3 bucks for a box of 200. That’s in Illinois. Keeps it to a buck a pack or less. Interestingly enough, the ‘pipe tobacco’ in bags does not carry the lung cancer warning, just the warning about nicotine being addictive. The bag ‘pipe tobacco’ tastes like tobacco, and pack cigarettes will just taste like chemicals once you switch.
Whatever works!! I finally quit by tapering off each day .... I can tell you I feel so much better.
I quit 20 years ago - tried to fill up every minute of the day with something to do to keep me from wanting a cig. Started surfing the internet, following interesting subjects, found FreeRepublic.com, been here ever since.
After smoking for 50 years I just quit!
It really wasn’t all that difficult.
The “after meals” and “with a beer or coffee urges” go away if you fight them off for 5 minutes.
(The urges) 8-)
Want a reason to quit?
I almost have to crawl up my stairs to get to the bedroom!
Can barely stand for longer than 5 minutes.
Lungs are shot.
Not only that ... Smoking also did something to my sense of smell!
I live with the odor of ... a kind of wet, burnt wood smell!
Sometimes the odor is so strong that it’s almost as if I am breathing smoke.
Food no longer taste as it should either because of the odor.
PLEASE QUIT!
Great advice, Spruce.
Typically, 7-10 seconds. One of the tricks is to quickly create a distraction by becoming involved in way; immediately get up and walk around, start talking to someone, get a drink of water, do almost anything but light a cigarette. Otherwise, those seconds can be uncomfortably long and very trying.
No matter how addicted to cigarettes you are.. with FAITH and truly wanting to quit.. you can do it cold turkey and not have any withdrawal at all!
You have to make up your mind this is it.. If you can’t do it for yourself.. do it for those who love you.. ask for Gods help.. and it is done! It really is that easy! I know first hand.
