American teacher trapped at the heart of the coronavirus outbreak reveals 'Wuhan seems like the Twilight zone' as people hide at home and stores sell out of masks and fresh produce
Daily Mail ^ | 01/29/2020

Last week, the university where he's taught English for the last six years traded a festive teachers' luncheon planned ahead of the Lunar New Year for frozen foods with packaging that protected them from outside germs. Administrators handed out face masks and hand sanitizer. The next day, January 23, the entire city was placed on lockdown, blocking anyone from entering or leaving the city where new cases of coronavirus were being reported at an alarming clip.

Grocery stores seem then to be the only places with any business. Malls and streets are otherwise nearly deserted, John writes.

Fresh vegetables have been quickly bought up but things were otherwise well stocked when John went to a Walmart near his apartment.

Face masks, on the other hand, sell out quickly and John was only allowed to enter and exit the university where he works if he's wearing one.

So far, coronavirus's fatality rate is about two percent, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Wednesday.

That's far less than the 14 to 15 percent of SARS sufferers who died after infection - but about 100 times the mortality rate of the flu.

Now neither he nor other people living in Wuhan can go to work now, and spend most of their time hold up in their homes.

Stated as fact, but cannot be proved because it is a Communist country that controls the flow of information.

Nothing better than a lie!

one thing noticed in the video is there are cues for food but as the teacher says, it’s run out by 10am.

Another article says that ppl are volunteering to drive the doctors and nurses home - who’ve been left to walking miles after work to get home. Why doesn’t the govt do this for their staff? They can build a hospital in 4 days but they can’t get a shuttle going? Just sad.

> Government propaganda alert! Ignore the story

Oh, it might be fake, or propaganda. You can’t trust anything -any- government says, whether it’s ours, the Chinese, or any other. They all have their agendas, and the truth rarely serves their agendas.

But ignore it? Nah, read it for the entertainment, and/or the sensationalist thrill of the unfolding unknown threat. Or just for the heck of it. It mostly beats anything on TV or social media.

And BTW, you neglected to hawk your hobbyhorse, Colloidal (“I Got The Blues”) Silver. You’ve been all over these virus threads, pushing CS like it’s a freakin’ cure-all. (Hint, FRiend, you are coming off like a kook. Just sayin’.)

Not that Silver is bad; quite the contrary. As far as I can tell, Silver is quite effective as an external, topical antibacterial. Ingesting Colloidal Silver, however, is almost universally recognized as ineffective and likely to give you The Blues (blue skin, eyes, etc.) a.k.a. “Argyria”. Whether it has any effect on this corona virus is unknown, but it’s extremely unlikely to have any effect, since silver is antibacterial, but not antiviral.

So my advice is, read anything you please, and believe anything you please, and make up your own mind about what you think is true or not. At least for now, it’s still a free country, in that respect.

I’ve got a Chinese friend here that is in that alkaline water machine pyramid scheme, and she tries to sell alkaline water like the colloidal silver folks do with their “cure”.

Truthoverpower is one of those well-meaning folk who want to spread what they consider very valuable info about a treatment.

Truthoverpower is a good freeper, and means well, probably CS at some point served him well. It DOES have its uses!

I wouldn't take it internally but would not hesitate to apply it topically for burns...it can turn the skin a grayish blue if taken internally...and this is not reversible so take care!

Truthoverpower has this on his FR about-page...only a great freeper would post such statements...I like the guy just based on this.

"God bless Jim Rob and Freerepublic. The best bastion of freedom we have!"

Here is a bit of info re colloidal silver...

Please my friends, take care when using any medication and always consult your doctor first...I say this sincerely.

This medication is used with other treatments to help prevent and treat wound infections in patients with serious burns. Silver sulfadiazine works by stopping the growth of bacteria that may infect an open wound. This helps to decrease the risk of the bacteria spreading to surrounding skin, or to the blood where it can cause a serious blood infection (sepsis). Silver sulfadiazine belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfa antibiotics. This medication is used with other treatments to help prevent and treat wound infections in patients with serious burns. From what I understand the city and provincial government is trying to get delivery trucks to the various stores. There are several problems. First many of the drivers from beyond Wuhan are refusing to go. Second, a lot of Chinese like to buy their food in “Wet Markets” which sort of resemble farmers’ markets. They are cheaper than grocery stores and more numerous. The small vendors at the wet markets can’t get the goods. Since you are not allowed to drive at this time unless going to a hospital it is a bit difficult for people to get to Carrefour or Walmart.

The mayor of Wuhan stated yesterday that he believes up to 5 million people left the city before the quarantine was imposed. This would also partially explain the lack of people in the streets. They aren’t there and others are staying inside. It also means that the virus has spread beyond Wuhan.

This guy has a video of going to the grocery store a day or so ago.

It might be hard to get drivers who want a doctor or nurse who just got out of a hospital full of respiratory virus in their vehicle.

[The mayor of Wuhan stated yesterday that he believes up to 5 million people left the city before the quarantine was imposed.]

Gotta wonder whether they left in anticipation of the inconveniences of a quarantine or to avoid the virus. The problem is what they do for money. I assume people are still gonna have to go back to work to pay the bills. Moving elsewhere means finding new jobs. Given China’s internal passport/work permit system for anything but the most menial jobs, how do Wuhan residents find jobs in other provinces? And, to my admittedly limited knowledge, it’s not like there are any laws against discriminating against residents from other provinces, especially when they lack the requisite city passports/work permits.

There is an aspect to all this that is ignored by the panic mongers. I have some medical background but IMHO to truly understand all this one almost has to apply quantum mechanics to all aspects of viral biology. I get a sense that there is a “natural damping” phenomenon that prevents these “serious viral threats” from being as serious as “worst possible outcome”. On the face of it a virus that is as communicable as the common cold and as lethal as flu if not more so would represent a real global threat, especially once it inevitably finds it’s way to a place like India.

OTOH, one thing we have noticed about viruses is they “attenuate”. We have known this since Pasteur. So it might actually be the best thing for “the world” (sux to be India) is to throw it into a place like India or Bangladesh. There it will be transmitted very quickly, quantum levels of what one would see in, say, Canada or maybe Iceland. Ironically, the best thing for the world may be for this virus to land in India and “assimilate”. It could be just what “kills it”.

Think about it. What version of the virus do you want to get? The version that has passed three times in the last month from, let’s say a sheriff who got it at the airport and your kid got it from his all in the last month? Or a version that has been passed a million times in India in the last two weeks? It’s almost like nature’s own vaccination program.

Sounds like he’s Irish rather than American?

Listen to this podcast and it basically sounds like this is not that different than a bad flu, with small children and the elderly (not someone in this guy’s demographics) those most at risk for severe consequences:

So, how many of the scare stories have panned out?
So far, the Flu has killed 45-50 times that of the coronavirus his season (so far)and the 2017-2018 season killed 450-500 times what this bug has killed.
