Officials at the Brazos County Health District said Thursday they are investigating a suspected case of the 2019 novel coronavirus.
The male patient, who has been identified as a student at Texas A&M University, had traveled from Wuhan, China, where the coronavirus that has made headlines in recent days first originated, officials said.

Hahaha.
Too funny!
Midway. Good idea!!
The i same scenario on this virus outbreak .
This lady gets exposed to Exotic food in China and
then spreads in while traveling home and it wipes out millions .
Very similar .
Novel?
Its probably the paperback version.
That was a great book. The unedited version is like 1200 pages, and I read it in a weekend. One of, if not his best.
I hope not.
More like 3.5%, but mutation could increase that.
I recommend that people procure a supply of NAC (N-acetylcysteine) for lung prophylaxis and start taking it. A fair amount of peer-reviewed research available, including its influence on the cytokine system. As those of us who weathered the bird/swine flu and SARS scares learned, it is often the cytokine storm that kills you. One unanswered question: what dose? The response may be curvilinear.
” oh yes MY BAD. it is NOT very deadly. “
But consider that the first small batch of patients have been treated in a timely manner, with available medical staff and ventilation-related equipment. If the medical system should become overwhelmed, that won’t be the case. We need to carefully monitor (if the information is available through Chinese blockades) what the mortality is in untreated patients.
NAC info, benefits, dosage....

Please remove me from this ping list. Thanks Nully
Me, too.
But, where is she??
Why in the hell isn’t he in isolation at a hospital? That is insane.

Actually it is out of its containment box in China despite their efforts to contain it. I thought I would never congratulate Red China. If news reports are accurate it is also an airborne contagion, thus will be pandemic. It is already on many continents.
I suspect as with the SARS virus it will mutate into less virulent forms.
This is not the “Spanish Flu” hopefully, post WWI it killed millions and also mutated to a less virulent form and oddly researchers exhumed bodies of victims in Alaska in recent times to study this virus. This was good research. The reason for Alaska is it is cold. The odds of preserving the original genetic material was much higher in Alaska as compared to my Texas.
Even more odd the virologist are not sure of the original genome of the Spanish Flu that killed millions. This genome changed rapidly and this is good. Otherwise it would have killed far more.
A virus or bacteria that kills quickly and surely is an inferior bacteria or virus. If it kills with 100% efficiency it insures its own death it would no longer have a host to spread its disease.
AIDs is unique virus. The host can be infected for years and spread the disease not even knowing he or she is infected. It is a most efficient virus.
Yes, I agree. But more reliable data, especially with the Chinese, may be awhile in coming. In any case, its already out.
Interestingly, the Spanish flu of 1918 wasn’t Spanish at all. Spain was neutral in WWI, and thus there was no censorship and the newspapers could report on the flu in Spain. Supposedly, the Spanish flu actually started in France, at a French military camp, in an area that had the perfect brew for it - pigs and ducks. It then spread to other military camps in French and British controlled territory, and also turned up among the Germans. But censorship for fear of demoralizing or panicking the civilian population prevented it from being reported.
However, one thing rarely mentioned is that France and the other countries had brought in a large number of Chinese laborers to fill the void left by the conscription of their young men. It seems to me that China must be one vast Petri dish.
He went to the hospital but was sent home. Now, they wait for the CDC to come back with a report hopefully by Monday. In the meantime, he can cough all over the family/roommates and they are probably coming and going in and out.

Horse and barn door.
Farrars hunch is that the coronavirus will have a lower mortality rate than the SARS epidemic 28 years ago, which killed 788 people. But if it spreads faster and further than SARS, and isnt controlled in time, then the deathtoll could be higher than SARS. But theres a lot of uncertainty.
He reminded reporters that the influenza epidemic a century ago had a low mortality rate, but killed 50m people because it spread so far.
Most viruses can last 24 hours on a hard surface.
Clothing is something like a couple of hours.
On your skin - viruses break down in 15 minutes due to your enzymes.
So like I tell my kids, quit wiping your mouth, rubbing your nose and eyes. Just keep your hands away from your face!

Yellow fever is one of several infectious diseases that can cause a hemorrhagic fever, a fever with organ failure resulting in bleeding complications.
Other viruses that can mimic Ebola disease are lassa fever, and dengue fever.
