Officials at the Brazos County Health District said Thursday they are investigating a suspected case of the 2019 novel coronavirus.
The male patient, who has been identified as a student at Texas A&M University, had traveled from Wuhan, China, where the coronavirus that has made headlines in recent days first originated, officials said.

It doesn’t seem terribly deadly, but I suppose we will discover it’s mortality rate soon enough, because it looks like it’s been on planes, so I don’t think there will be any containing it.

Doubt this was engineered, unless they were testing gestation times and ability to transfer in the general population.
I have no need or interest to visit UT, but the fact that we’re about 35-40 minutes drive away from the university is not comforting. Fortunately, being retired means not having to interact daily with people who have college- or school-age kids.

So, is he here by himself or is the whole family here? Who is treating him and who lives in the house? Young roommates who haven't a clue about isolation? Or do grandma and the other 15 relatives bring him breakfast in bed and they all use the same bathroom. His 8 cousins attend public school. Mama and uncle go out to work everyday. And the 3 toddlers go to day care. Right? Bet a whole group traveled to China during the break. No way is he the only one from there as that's not how it works.

Those college aged kids come home on the weekends so mama can do their laundry. The mama goes to the grocery store, to Walmart and is the server your favorite restaurant.

as far as i can tell it is not as bad as influenza A. Having said that the way China is reacting it is either worse than we know or China is being China or both
There’s an every other day flight (China Airlines), direct from Wuhan, that lands at JFK every other day. Next flight is scheduled to land, tomorrow.
