Vikings may have predicted climate change on ancient stone carving

A startling message on a 1,200-year-old granite slab created by the Vikings appears to predict climate change, experts say.

The research, published in Futharc: International Journal of Runic Studies, looks at the message that was written after Viking warrior Varin’s son died in battle in the 9th century, foreseeing a new “climate crisis,” similar to the weather conditions that happened nearly 300 years prior.

“This study proposes instead that the inscription deals with an anxiety triggered by a son’s death and the fear of a new climate crisis similar to the catastrophic one after 536 [AD],” researchers, led by Per Holmberg, wrote in the study’s abstract.

They did consider climate change, but Greta the First drove them all insane and they gave it up...

The captions are hard to read that small and I can't find a larger size cartoon.
The first bubble reads "She says we can't light too many fires while pillaging...and we must be mindful of our carbon footprint...whatever that is!"
The second bubble reads "Leave her on the ship...she's bad for business."

Greta's banner reads "Climate Warrior."

No the runes is an ad by the Viking Socialist Party. They were talking about Bernie Sanderson of a little known kingdom -state called Vermontland, talking about free land, free healthcare, free education and free food.

Also, it talked about a sporting events saying the Vikings lost to the 49ers. 😋

Did Bjorn The Viking also predict SUVs, atomic bombs, and McDonald’s farm to fastfood?

What did Bjorn blame the looming climate change on and how close was he in guessing the temperature change and the span for it to occur?

Did they need bigger boats for higher oceans (more water to cross)?

Same thing happened in New England in 1816 - the year without a summer. Freezing temps every month of the year.

Climate change has been very tough on the Vikings as they have struggled to adapt:

It’s been especially tough for Ivan the Great.

The year 536, is the beginning of the Dark Ages and then the Justinian Plague. What caused the Dark Ages? My guess is volcanic ash darkening the skies for a few years that caused crops to fail, etc due to summers without sunlight. It literally was the Dark Ages.

The cold lasted 10 -15 years, but the sun was dimmed for only 18 months, according to Byzantine accounts:

"For the sun gave forth its light without brightness, like the moon, during the whole year" - Procopius
