Today’s Cryptogram

Posted on 01/19/2020 3:55:57 AM PST by nikos1121

Today’s CG from The Arkansas Gazette. I think you all will find this easier than most, esp when you see the author. Everyone should get this under 4 minutes, and most under 3. Below 2 and you wear the Cape of Beauty Soap.

AQCJ RQXRKXQAJU LYWCW. APQA YW HKYAJ UYGGJLJDA GLVI FJYDE LQWP. —EJVLEJ W. ZQAAVD

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

2019 Cryptogram Solvers Hall of Fame

Over the next few days I will list the names of Today’s CG puzzle solvers admitted to THE HALL OF FAME

The selection is based on the consistency of effort, fun, creative, sometimes goofy and lively commentary, and their general enthusiasm.

In addition their choice reflects their skill and temerity of purpose in the solving of these daily CGs and their support for this posting.

On February 26th, (The first day of Lent), I will name three Hall of Famers, and give a $25 donation to Free Republic in their behalf.

Congratulations to Today's Cryptogram Hall of Famer: cartan;

cartan, our German friend, has been a CG solver for a long time. One of the most supportive followers who rarely gets stumped on a CG, and his primary language is German! Congratulations!!!

About 2 min. 10 sec. Author’s first name got me going. Gamble paid off.

This guy took one and got lucky. Some math and geometrical planning involved to pull this off successfully

About same time. Most common letter, then 4th word of 2nd sentence.

It wasn’t like an Ultra Secret or anything.

Fourth word. Got stuck. Decided that “Maddog _” was the author LOL

Okay, that was about 4 minutes. The first name was not too hard, and from there, I managed.

I took an educated guess on the fourth word and it was worth taking.

Played with common letters, then got the author. Rest followed easily.
