Today’s Cryptogram

Posted on 01/06/2020 4:03:13 AM PST by nikos1121

Very challenging CG from today’s Arkansas Gazette, Anything under 10 minutes is good, under 6 is excellent, and 2 minute or less is amazing.

GZCV ZUCVYBEWC GWEV YDYH DAWR DW GYQW OI ZOP GMRXC VZ DYEQ UZEXEH VAPZOSA VAWG. —ZPMCZR CDWVV GYPXWR

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

TOPICS: Chit/Chat
KEYWORDS: brain; cryptogram; puzzle; todayscryptogram
If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

14 minutes. Focusing on the double letters in the middle name sort of gave me a slow jump start. YMMV

Good quote.
It’s a shame the author didn’t start it with “ALL”.

Nope. Just...nope.

But the 4th word is key. (It’s got a repeated letter you know.)

Guessed the last word based on a two letter word which gives you the second to the last word that breaks it open. If that makes sense.

About 3 and 1/2 min. Got the 4th word based on its pattern YDYH. Then guessed one of the most used letters and the speed bumps ahead turned to sand.

It’s a shame the author didn’t start it with “ALL”.

Without your ALL hint, I’d never have gotten it. I think I spent a half hour.

That’s quite a moniker.

Words 4, 5 and 6 broke the code for me.

Took me a while to figure out how my “ALL” was a clue. It’s a three letter not a four letter word.
Then it hit me. LOL

Nikos, please add 3 more minutes to my puzzle solving time.

Tough. About ten minutes. Once I took a stab at the last word, it fell into place fairly easily.
