During a rally yesterday, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden spoke to a crowd in Derry, N.H., a town that many miners call home. He acknowledged the economic setbacks and job insecurity that coal miners face these days, and gave them some advice: learn to code.
According to Dave Weigel of the Washington Post, Biden said, “Anybody who can go down 3,000 feet in a mine can sure as hell learn to program as well... Anybody who can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program, for God’s sake!”
According to Weigel, the comment was met with silence from the audience.
Biden's campaign has proposed moving the U.S. away from fossil fuels to reduce the country’s carbon footprint.

Sure, but dont sell out communities by shipping factories to Mexico and China and tell me its “free trade”. Or shutting down mines and forestry and then import coal and lumber. This has been an argument for decades and led to the opiate crisis. And plz do not give me the same “buggy whip” phrase that non-thinking libertarians do.

I learned to write software over fifty years ago; and, I am a "software engineer" rather than a coder. Coders script HTML or fill out medical billings. It is degrading to see how professionals in the field lack precision in nomenclature.

well, i SUPPOSE it’s possible that those hundreds of thousands of displaced coal miners could always learn to code ... learn to write code for the aerospace industry, the medical industry, and other non-critical industries not terribly sensitive to a few software bugs here and there by novice coders with zero education in physics, aerodynamics, biomechanics, organic chemistry, molecular biology, etc. ... NAAAAAAAAAAAA
