The big US/Israel alignment in Syria is preventing Iran from creating an Iranian corridor through southern Syria.
I think China is seeing that Iran can’t accomplish that because of it’s antipathy to Israel, and is looking for other resources.
Without China’s backing Iran is nothing.
Israel has to have the ways open through Syria and Turkey..and through Iraq and Iran.
actually I think that was Saudi Arabia’s idea.
Overthrow Libya, take weapons, give them to terrorist groups in Syria. Pipeline from their area thru Turkey to compete with Russia access to Europe. Guess who did not like that?
Israels oil fields are up in the Med. I believe.

The Russian needs the friendly bases and land for oil - gas pipeline and ports. ??? Isreal has its ports for transporting goods. They have just descovered new oil- gas deposits so pipeline wouldn’t be an issue in my mind
Just know that the Iranian guard who by constitution was created to protect the government after they got rid of the shah has been brutal on their own people. If they are drawn out of Terahn then there is less
Protection for the Iranian government. And the people have a chance. Our “leaving” Iraq is an invitation for the guard to move away from their usual guarding posts.
