A hard-boiled egg recall has expanded to products sold at Walmart and Trader Joe's following a deadly listeria outbreak.
Almark Foods broadened the recall to include all hard-boiled egg products manufactured at its facility in Gainesville, Georgia, due to potential listeria contamination.
The listeria outbreak has been linked to seven cases, including one death and four hospitalizations, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. The outbreak is contained to five states, but the recalled products were shipped nationwide.
The expanded recall includes popular brands and organic fare, like Egglands Best, Pete & Gerry's and Vital Farms.
Trader Joe's egg and potato salads were recalled, too, because Almark Foods provided broken egg whites used in their production.

Get the Instant Pot electric (IP) pressure cooker. I have the IP 6 qt Duo and make 12 hard boiled eggs in 8 minutes. Set the pressure cooker to high, add 8 minutes for time. 1 cup water, set eggs on trivet placed in the bottom of the IP . Lock the lid and press the start button. Immediately release the pressure when the time is down and the IP switches to warm. Cancel the warm and unplug the IP. When all the pressure is released I open the lid and move the eggs into a bowl of ice water. let them set for 5 minutes. Crack the shells and the eggs just slip out of the shells. Prefect hard boiled eggs. I am 6010 ft above sea level. At sea level 6 minutes for perfect hard boiled eggs. Pressure cooked eggs are the only way to get easily peel eggs.
Moi? Who cooked her first Thanksgiving turkey at age 15? Or who taught Chinese cooking for 33 years? Oh wait. We are talking about boiling water
I am situated at 6010 ft above sea level. To get a soft boiled egg using the IP. I set the timer for 5 minutes and low pressure. Immediately release at end of time. Soak eggs in tamp cold water for about a minute. They are still warm when eating. The yolk will be partly crumbly and partly creamy. At sea level maybe 3 or 4 minutes. Also very easily to peel the egg shells after pressure cooked.
Because I have trained employees in a factory that handled food products, I’d like to see the workforce. Are they from other countries (mideast or south of border) where cleanliness not taught? or lazy low paid temporaries? or did quality control forget to check machinery?
re “air-pressure gadgets you see advertised on TV”
If you’re talking about the little countertop plunger thing, I almost bought one but went looking for reviews online.
They said what you said. I love kitchen gadgets. I did buy a set of Eggies to avoid peeling. Didn’t pan out. They leak, but kind of work. The yolks get all cockeyed and don’t work well for deviled eggs. Tolerable for egg salad, but a mess to clean up.
re “Get the Instant Pot electric (IP) pressure cooker.”
I’ve got an electric pressure cooker. How much different is that than an Insta-pot? Do I need one?
Mine takes upwards of 40 minutes to reach pressure. Plus cook time, and release time, I can’t imagine having that beast out on the counter for a couple hours just to cook some eggs.
But, like I said, I love kitchen gadgets. Convince me.
[also, I’ve been looking at the countertop ovens with an air fryer and chicken rotisserie! Need to know how they are. Mrs. Kit loves gadgets too, but we’re running out of counter space. PM if you’ve got a recommendation]
Now back to our regularly scheduled egg-recall thread.
This method works for me maybe 75% of the time. The other 25% of the time the eggs are difficult to peel and come out as someone said earlier as if they were gnawed on by rats.
You can make these at home. Is this kind of like what you had?
Scotch Eggs.
A hard-boiled egg, wrapped in sausage (I like Jimmy Dean), then rolled in breading and deep fried. Whoa! These are a few of my favorite things.

Sadly, I only indulge on these once every year or so. But they are GOOD.
A couple of these tucked into your kilt is a fine breakfast in the Highlands.
Sounds good. Not what I had.
I'd just tell him it was an eggsistential crisis.
If you've never had a Scotch Egg, check the link. Tasty. I'm wondering what you did have. How to get a deviled egg inside a fried part. Very curious. Will search.
They do cook solid. Im at 3000 feet, so I cant comment on 6000, but just try it and adjust the time as necessary. Simply get your steamer (I have an All Clad steamer pot) boiling with about an inch of water in the bottom place the eggs in the basket and cover. After 15 minutes (or adjusted minutes), use tongs to plunge them into a bowl of ice water. Leave them there for 15 minutes and theyre ready to peel.
“Will not eat hard boiled eggs from the store.”
we tried some we bought from Costco one time ... they were packages that had like two dozen eggs i think ... they never tasted quite right to me and were quite hard and rubbery ...
oh, well ... i went back to taking the few extra minutes to hard boil and peel my own eggs, which taste WAY better ...
“People associate Listeria with milk”
processed lunch meat like olive loaf and such have to be produced in extremely sterile environments so as no to end up hosting listeria ...
I'll update on the results.
How did the steaming turn out? I’ve used this method successfully...

Magna-ificient-tron, they turned out pretty well. Brought the water in the stockpot to rolling boil, turned the heat down a tad, and placed three eggs in the bamboo steamer tray (that had already been on the pot while the water was coming to boil). Set the timer for 16 minutes, pulled them off at about 17 minutes, and settled them into a saucepot of ice water.
Timer set for 15 minutes while they chilled. Pulled out for peeling. That shell didn't 'slide off' but I have to say it was fairly easy and didn't chew up the whites. The yolk was perfectly cooked, solid for use. See for yourself.
I think I'll try this again next time I'm boilin' some eggs. Thank you very much!
The home cooked DO taste better. Especially if they're real farm eggs.
Sounds like one shell of a problem.
Contact after peeling....
