NEW YORK (Reuters) - NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on Wednesday that the league had moved on from last months long-awaited workout with Colin Kaepernick, three years after the former 49ers quarterback kneeled during the pre-game national anthem in protest of racial injustice.
The protests drew the ire of U.S. President Donald Trump and Kaepernick said teams would not sign him because of his activism. He eventually settled a collusion grievance case with the National Football League in February.
The NFL announced the special workout with just a few days notice, and the 32-year-old quarterback moved the tryout from the Atlanta Falcons facility to a high school after learning the media would not be permitted to attend otherwise.
This was about creating an opportunity, Goodell told reporters on Wednesday, at a league meeting. We created that opportunity. It was a unique opportunity, a credible opportunity and he chose not to take it. I understand that.

Horse manure.
“I hate pig cops” is lousy branding.
I look forward to the next 30 years of Kaepernick’s decline.
When I found out the military paid the NFL for all those patriotic celebrations at games, that was the beginning of the end for me.
The kneeling and how the NFL responded was the last straw.
Time to OD, Colon.
NFL and Colon Cancer. Remains to be seen.
True. The NHL is rocking.
The dude was 3 years out of the league, he is old news, why would anyone invest in a mediocre at best QB who is 32 who hasn’t been on the field in about 3 years?
He was DOA before it started.
I’ve moved on from the NFL after being a 50 year fan.
Kraperfink was gifted with talents in a nation that afforded a platform like no other for him to excel and achieve. Hes an ungrateful SOB loser unworthy of the opportunities and favors bestowed upon him. Hes unwise by choice.
Each passing day makes Colin a little less qualified for that job. You can’t stay at Pro-Ball condition forever, not even Tom Brady can do that! Father Time always catches up with us.
To think how far they have fallen.
MNF in 1980 was a hoot.
Why would any team sign this asshat?
Like asking a surgeon to put a cancerous tumor back in.
That because we had Howard Cosell, Alex Karras and Frank Gifford.
I don’t care for Goodell, but that’s fairly definitive language.
NFL = Zzzzzzzz. A bunch of committee meetings and erectile dysfunction commercials punctuated by short periods of actual play.
What team would want a 32 yo QB who’s a wild card vs. a 22 yo QB from the draft anxious to perform, learn the playbook and be a good productive contributor to a team?
I was pour when the league offered to assist with the Obama Care rollout. But the games had become unwatchable by then anyway.
I admit to laughing when I heard that one of the wide receivers who was brought in for this dog and pony show was offered a free agent contract by the Redskins but Kaepernick wasn’t.
