NASA Announce City-Killing Asteroid Could [.026% chance] Hit Earth On May 6, 2022

Yeah, I know you’re rolling your eyes – another day, another killer asteroid. You’ll probably be thinking: ‘This is just paranoid riffraff.’

Well… it is, really. However, there is actually a dangerous lump of space rock barrelling towards us, and there is a (hilariously) small chance it could wallop our planet.

NASA first discovered the asteroid back in 2009. Over the past decade, the space agency’s automated asteroid watching system – known as Sentry – has been tasked with keeping an eye on it.

Don’t worry yourself too much though. NASA place the odds of JF1 actually hitting us at 0.026%, therefore there’s more than a 99% chance that it will not. I doubt Paddy Power will let me put a tenner on.

There are a whole bunch of ideas on how to divert asteroids, and some of them are quite cheap. So why not send up some inexpensive probes to try out these ideas? Pick asteroids that are not too near Earth and measure what effects it has.

One simple idea is to paint half the asteroid white, called the Yarkovsky effect. The effect results from the fact that asteroids heat up as they bask in the sun’s light. Of course like many of these means, it just moves the asteroid a tiny fraction off course, but over millions of miles that adds up.

Because even NASA was unable to find a way to make Muslims feel good about themselves.

If they put the right English on it as it’s coming in they could still achieve the goal of muslim outreach.

My only question with these stories is, “How large is it?”

I thought size didn't matter.

I want it to break in three pieces and hit wherever Soros, Pope Francis, and Obama are at that time.

.26 would be close to a 1 in 4 chance. .026 is close to a 1 in 50 chance.

On the outside chance that it strikes the earth. There’s about a 75% chance that it lands in an ocean.

The article specifically mentions "city killing meteor". So, it wont be landing in the ocean or any water body. It's gotta be a city.
