FLORENCE, S.C. – Former Vice President Joe Biden, a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 presidential race, was denied Holy Communion on Sunday morning at a Florence church.

Father Robert E. Morey of Saint Anthony Catholic Church confirmed Monday afternoon that he had denied the presidential candidate Holy Communion because of his stance on abortion. Biden, a lifelong Catholic, had attended the church's 9 a.m. Mass.

Communion is one of seven sacraments in the Roman Catholic Church. The others are baptism, reconciliation, confirmation, marriage, anointing of the sick and holy orders.

The priest by allowing Biden to receive the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ would be giving great scandal to the faithful
..............................................
I’m not in a position to cite any studies on the matter, but like everyone else who has been paying attention to how the Church as “evolved” since the Satan Council (VC-II) it appears crystal clear that the vast majority of priests are continuously “giving great scandal to the faithful”.

Personally I don’t think the priest had that right or authority.

He does under Canon 915. He helps the sinner see the error of his ways and avoids scandal to the Christian community.

“Depends on one’s definition of “judge”. One definition of the verb is to form an opinion. which is of course a universal human activity.”

Didn’t the rest of my statement saying “However, I believe God will rightly judge the scumbag.” answer about my opinion?

As a Protestant I have great admiration for this priests brave action here.
And also for the tremendous pro life stance and actions that Catholics display on many fronts including this one.

Yes, it did. I was responding to what seemed to me to be your self-criticism for voicing your own opinion/judgment, which I considered to be your right.

Little good Communion is, I suppose, if you refuse to even recognize your own sins. Forgiveness requires repentance.

Old Joe should come to my parish! I’m pretty sure my pastor would do this same thing!

C’mon, Joe! Come! Right here in flyover country!

Wow, I realize I am 40 years out of it but I don’t remember anywhere in my Catholic instruction where public announcement and attornment of sins is required for absolution.

I'm pretty sure his continuing to publicly support abortion is a good sign that he hasn't repented, and therefore certainly has yet to be absolved.

We need to pray for Joe, but it’s been my experience that Catholics who believe in killing babies usually don’t believe in the Real Presence, so perhaps we should be praying for his conversion.

As a Catholic I could give a rats hind leg what ‘’the church’’ says. The ‘’church’’ and the Vatican have long ago surrendered to the homo lobby and the pedophiles. I believe in The trinity of Christ. Not what Frankie Boy and the cardinals think.

Welcome back. Talk to the RCIA leader at your Catholic Church.

“One wonders if he would also be refused extreme unction.”

Good question. Extreme unction washes most sins, not all, such as giving curses successfully.

Sadly, people like Biden are skilled at breaking the Ten Commandments every day and risk their eternal destiny.

Canon 915 is the rule that allows priests to reject communion to people in grave sin.

If you are continuing to publicly support the killing of children I would think that you would have to make some sort of public statement, work or some other action to show the faithful that you are at least repentant. It only makes sense. It would not be required of non-public sinners as we aren't going around (at least I am not) on TV and radio supporting or performing grave sins.

As a wayward Catholic to over 40 years that has recently tried to rejoin the flock I know I am not fit to judge.
..........................................................
Depends on one’s definition of “judge”. One definition of the verb is to form an opinion. which is of course a universal human activity.

Obedience to God is not a matter of personal opinion. God's will for our behavior is found in the scriptures. The Catholic Church has studied, codified and refined its belief system into its catechism over the past 2,000 years. Study of the Bible and the catechism of your chosen denomination will answer all your own questions as to why the Church holds the beliefs that it does, against which uniformed personal opinions are a waste of time—sort of like telling off an arresting officer when he says he clocked you for speeding.

..................................................
Of course it is. Whether one believes he is being obedient to God is always based on his opinion regarding what the will of God is at any given moment. That is obvious by virtue of the fact that opinions about the revelation of His will have resulted in the creation of countless religious organizations Christian and non-Christian.
