Ok here goes... Where/When did California get SO Screwed Up, I mean what was the pivotal Event/Year?
1986 when Reagan got schnookered into granting immigration amnesty. It’s been on a rocket sled ride to the Left ever since.
Beige Davis being recalled by a RINO. There was still hope up until then. Should’ve left Beige in to prove how unworthy the Dems are to lead America’s greatest state.
Gray Davis, then Shwartzendummie. Then they opened the floodgates of the “Gimmedat” generation.
So AFAIK it's been a gradual process over the past 50 years. No one particular year or even decade stands out as "The One Where It All Went Into The Toilet".
1986 amnesty coupled with the judicial intervention on Prop 187.
It was fated to be a colony of Mexico by those two things.
A long decline from 1967 and the Summer of Love.
But I think the immigration change in the 80s and the LA riots in the early 90s really accelerated the bad stuff.
“Ok here goes... Where/When did California get SO Screwed Up, I mean what was the pivotal Event/Year?”
I blame Berkeley.
Working in L.A, I see it all the time. Methinks’ the nail in the coffin was when a F***** judge overturned the faggot marriage ban that won out in a referendum.
When proposition 187 was held unconstitutional. Voted for in 1994, held unconstitutional in 1999. That was the beginning of the end.
California Proposition 187 (also known as the Save Our State (SOS) initiative) was a 1994 ballot initiative to establish a state-run citizenship screening system and prohibit illegal immigrants from using non-emergency health care, public education, and other services in the State of California. Voters passed the proposed law at a referendum on November 8, 1994. The law was challenged in a legal suit the day after its passage, and found unconstitutional by a federal district court on November 11th.[1] In 1999, Governor Gray Davis halted state appeals of this ruling.
Passage of Proposition 187 reflected state residents’ concerns about illegal immigration into the United States. Opponents believed the law was discriminatory against illegal immigrants of Hispanic or Asian origin; supporters maintained that their concerns were economic: that the state could not afford to provide social services for so many people who had entered the country illegally or overstayed their visas.[2][3] The ballot measure was seen as a direct reaction to the 1990 recession.[4] However, the California Legislative Analysts office later reported that the cost of verification would outweigh any fiscal benefits of the ballot measure.[5] Republicans’ embrace of Proposition 187 has been cited as a key factor for the decline of the Republican Party in California, particularly as the demographics have changed to include more immigrants.
Jerry Brown’s first term, 1975. He began the downward spiral.
It was gradual. Over many years they came to our State from all over the North East primarily. There was no specific event.
I’d say if we want to blame a specific event it would be the annual nationally televised January first Rose Parade, and Rose Bowl. All those people sitting freezing their butts off in the North East would see the Winter Sunshine, the palm trees, the pretty girls in shorts in January, and they’d load the wagons.
About a couple of months after the Rose Parade we’d see all kinds of East Coast license plates all over Southern California.
The Girly Man pushed this State over the edge, it has been a steady downhill slide since.
As one of Hemingway's characters says in The Sun Also Rises:
How did you go bankrupt?"Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.
Although this now probably a historical title, San Francisco has been referred to as the hippy capitol of the world. So the 1950s and 1960s come to mind.
Corrections, insights welcome.
That’s really a tough one, but Arnold was the last Republican (RINO) to occupy the governor’s mansion. Was it Arnold, or had it started before him? Sure seems like that is when only Democrats got elected from there on out.
Followed by proposition 187 in 1994, which would have denied illegals most tax paid benefits, when the feds working with their state government co-conspirators burned our ballots and declared our free election illegal, after it won big.
Ya just knew it was all over at that point. And it went straight down hill from there...
Leftist and liberals looted and gang raped the crown jewel of America. Today is an utter disaster in every direction. And it’s never coming back to what it once was.
I agree the judicial intervention changed the landscape, the people had voted to fix the illegal alien problem and the judge blew it up. they should have kept fighting and not settled...thanks to grey davis stopping appeals calif is now a 3rd world 50% shithole. Only chance now is to break up into several states and let LA and SF take care of themselves.

It was really starting to get hosed when I lived there from 1998-2000. I’m in the Video Game Industry so I have lots of friends out there int he Bay area who kept me updated with the drip, drip, then gush and then torrent of stupidity. The last 5 years have begun the death spiral. My whole industry is in the process of packing up and moving to Austin, TX.
